I disagree goose. Superman needs grounding, it's part of being the farmboy at heart. In the Silver Age, Clark Kent was the disguise and Superman was the real persona. The post-Crisis Superman (and all since then) reversed this. As it was put in Lois and Clark, "Superman is what I can do, Clark is who I am." Interstingly, the identity dynamic is reversed with Batman. In the SA, Batman is the disguise, while post-Crisis, Bruce Wayne is the disguise.

I never liked the Superman/Wonder Woman couple. I prefer the Batman/Wonder Woman "couple" as seen in Justice League Unlimited, John Byrne's Generations 3, and in the Comic-Con Justice League trailer.

Personally, I've never been a big fan of Wonder Woman being paired up with Superman OR Batman to be perfectly honest. She's a strong enough character to have a love interest created for her, rather than being paired with Superman. Plus, I think it kinda screws up the DC Trinity (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman), as having Wonder Woman being the girlfriend of either, makes the other guy essentially the third wheel. Look! It's the power couple, and _________.

Pass.

For me, I'd rather stick with the creator's intent as much as possible. Superman with Lois Lane. Wonder Woman with Steve Trevor, and Batman being the James Bond of the DC universe. Course I wouldn't mind seeing him settle down with Catwoman, but the only time that ever happened, for any substantial amount of time, was with the Golden Age Earth-Two Batman, who married Catwoman, and had a daughter named, Helena Wayne, who became the original Huntress.

I miss that Huntress.

What worries me, is not so much that you guys are overthinking the Superman dynamic, but rather that I'm sitting here thinking up counterarguments.

If we have any Godzilla fans here.
IDW Comics has been putting out a bunch of comics for him lately.
I must highly highly recommend Godzilla - The Half Century War.
One of the best Godzilla stories in any medium.

In current continuity, I agree with you. The examples I cited were different continuities. In Generations, the Bats/WW relationship was in the future after Bruce had become immortal due to exposure from a Lazerus Pit. In JLU and JL, Diana's long-time love interest is in the past.

The story of how the Earth-Two Batman and Catwoman got together was told in Brave and the Bold #197 is one of the great Batman stories of all time. And yeah, I miss the pre-Crisis Earth-Two.

Yeah, big time Godzilla fan here.

One of my favorite moments with IDW's Godzilla, actually came from the initial series where Godzilla actually took out the Jersey Shore cast with his atomic ray.

Gotcha. I really do need to read the Generations series since I do like John Byrne's work, but yeah, Elseworlds stories are the place to go if someone wants to try out an idea that may not be entirely appropriate for the main line.

I do as well. Pre-Crisis Earth Two Batman appeared very briefly shortly following Infinite Crisis in a JSA issue, but that's been about it. Figured DC would have given us more appearances considering at the time, all that Earth-Two history was placed back into continuity, but nope.

You guys are the comic experts here, not me. I know about comic books because I read them in the '80s when I was younger, but changed interest to video games and RPGs in the early '90s as I finished grade school. The only post-high school interest I had in comics was having to take a job in the summer of 1996 at Comic Book World, which didn't last. I should say that my hairstyle resembles Clark Kent, but I don't wear glasses; I also wish I could have the beefcake model physique and strength of Superman, but I probably can't at this point. I have been compared to Captain Canada because I am polite, well-spoken, and politically-correct at work.

The coolest comic book scenario is being on a loading dock with Captain America, Captain Canada, Batman, and Wolverine, with occasional help from Spiderman and Bruce Lee. These are the nicknames each of us had when I was unloading trucks 2012-13 with mostly Millennial guys who were 10-15 years younger than me.

"I'm Batman." -- attributed to a certain Devil Dog [USMC Reservist] who I no longer work with every day.
