British artist Mike Noble, who helped to draw the worlds of Gerry Anderson(puppet series)for fanzines etc has died at the age of 83. I was told this by my sister who looked after him in a nursing home. She was pretty cut up about it and she revealed she had got me a Christmas present from him(signed) but obviously couldn't say anymore.

My absolute favourite film director, Nic Roeg, has died aged 90.
His list of movie credits is astonishing and unique and his brilliantly audacious, experimental method of film-making is completely original. https://www.theguardian.com/film/201...-now-walkabout Performance Walkabout Don't Look Now The Man Who Fell to Earth Bad Timing Eureka Castaway All amazing, bizarre, troubling and deeply affecting films that I consider his best. He's also known for Insignificance, The Witches and Two Deaths - lesser films IMO, but still notable and fascinating in many respects. He was also the cinematographer on Lawrence of Arabia, The Masque of the Red Death, Casino Royale (1967), Doctor Zhivago and Fahrenheit 451 (amongst others). https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001676/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolas_Roeg RIP Last edited by Nightjar; November 24th, 2018 at 03:17 PM.. |

The film director and producer Nicholas Roeg has passed on, aged 90. His filmography includes important 1970s films Walkabout; Don't Look Now and The Man Who Fell To Earth. He had a very distinctive filmmaking style, in which events would appear out of sequence to emphasise the alienation and confusion felt by the characters in the scene. He was a modernist in film, a little bit in the way that Faulkner, Virginia Woolf and Joyce were modernists in prose writing.
I liked Walkabout best of the films in his filmography which I have seen. It struck me as extremely strange and yet very realistic and credible, and it had a rather intriguing angle on how modern Australia and the ancient society of the aboriginal boy could not coexist happily. It is a haunting, mysterious and disturbing film. His films do not speak to me of a man at peace with life but I trust Nicholas Roeg is at peace now.
