I remember Richard Baker from the brilliant Morecambe & Wise showstopper, "There is nothing like a Dame" and the news reading but I also remember him narrating a charming children's television series called Teddy Edward, featuring the adventures of a teddy bear in a series of still photographs in various locations. It only last 10mins each episode but it was still a delightful series.

And the rather splendid (if I were too old for it by then) Mary, Mungo and Midge. (Mary was an ordinary little girl, Mungo a dog, Midge a mischievous little mouse, animated in the same style as the great Captain Pugwash)

Default Aldyr Schlee, designer of Brazil's famous yellow jersey, dies

The man who designed the Brazilian football team's famous yellow shirt has died.

Aldyr Garcia Schlee, a designer, journalist and writer, was 83 and had been diagnosed with skin cancer.

He was only 18 when he submitted his design to a national competition launched after Brazil's traumatic home defeat in the 1950 World Cup.

Until losing in the final match to Uruguay, the Brazilian national team used to play in white.

That unexpected and traumatic defeat led to a crisis of national identity.

The authorities decided that a new strip would be created and launched a national competition in 1953.

The only requirement was that it should have the four colours of the national flag (green, yellow, blue and white) to instil the players with a sense of pride and passion.

The competition was won by Mr Schlee, who worked as an illustrator for a provincial newspaper in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Sad news..

I remember as a kid watching a comedy with John Bluthal - "Never Mind the Quality, Feel The Width".. a sitcom about two "Jewish" tailors. So stereotyped that you couldn't get away with screening it today!

RIP John.

Re John Bluthal. He was a regular voice in 'Fireball XL5' as Commander Zero amongst others and he also used to appear with Spike Milligan, one of the impressions he did was of historian of the time Hugh Weldon(Huge) and he also went across to Australia to appear in just two episodes of a remake of Bless This House called 'Home Sweet Home' as an Italian taxi driver.

John Bluthal was in the first two Beatles movies as well, a car thief in A Hard Days Night and one of the Kali followers in Help!
