Secret Agent Selection WWII on BBC2 9pm takes ordinary members of the public, all walks of life and trains them to be Special Operations Executive agents using the same techniques and training they had back then. Of the fourteen that started in episode one 4 were let go. It looks a good series in the same vein as the SAS programme last year and the one about whether you could be an astronaut.

And they copied the SAS idea from the BBC so they all do it.

Wild, Wild Country --documentary series about the Rajneeshis in Oregon now on Netflix, a local story for me.

Could use editing down-- probably twice as long as it should be-- but its got one of the great charismatic villains, "Sheela" the Bhagwan's venomous and beautiful right hand woman and the story is riveting.

Remarkable story and Sheela is a genuine Bond villain/Dr. Evil type. Or, for a real world equivalent, I l'd compare her to Jiang Ching aka "Madame Mao", the ferocious wife of Chairman Mao.

The Vice review has it just right:

From the moment Ma Anand Sheela appears in Netflix’s Wild Wild Country, it’s clear she is not to be fucked with. In her opening monologue in the six-part documentary, the former administrative leader of the Rajneesh religious cult talks about how one cannot wear a crown without the threat of death by "guillotine."

"In spite of guillotine, they haven't killed me yet, they haven’t killed my spirit," Sheela, now graying in her late 60s, says. "No matter where I go, I will always wear crown… I'm not afraid of being under guillotine."

I recognize that Sheela had major flaws, and may even be a psychopath. I also feel like if she was a man (or at least if she hadn't ended up in jail) she could have been the leader of a country. Hell, she could’ve been the president of the United States. The world could use a little bit more Sheela. But not too much.

My father pointed something out about this the other day.

How long do you think it will be before all Allied troops stationed out in places like Afghanistan, the Middle East etc see this and decide to do their own version (in combat uniform) around their camp?

It would be a good morale booster for the troops there.

A couple of episodes of the Lost In Space reboot. Great production values, good casting and interesting plot; and the shake-up of the traditional characters works well too.

British troops did a version of Tony Christie's song "Is This The Way To Amarillo?" once so you never know.
