This whole notion is really an insult to all the hardworking people on the coasts that generate the lions share of the GDP and have been underwriting the redistribution of wealth by the federal government to the red states. The new tax bill's provision to transfer even more taxes from the coastal state workers may backfire by putting a drag on GDP. We already know that the bill will cause even greater deficits, which Republicans are already talking of offsetting by drastically cutting back the programs keeping many of the Trump voters afloat. It will also serve to continue the automation of jobs that has been suppressing wages.

Default Have we ever had a more ignorant President...

than the current one, given the amount of information available, compared to the past?

from VoX - Incoherent, authoritarian, uninformed: Trump’s New York Times interview is a scary read

Quote:
The president of the United States is not well. That is an uncomfortable thing to say, but it is an even worse thing to ignore.
Consider the interview Trump gave to the New York Times on Thursday. It begins with a string of falsehoods that make it difficult to tell whether the leader of the free world is lying or delusional. Remember, these are President Donald Trump’s words, after being told a recording device is on:

Virtually every Democrat has said there is no collusion. There is no collusion. And even these committees that have been set up. If you look at what’s going on — and in fact, what it’s done is, it’s really angered the base and made the base stronger. My base is stronger than it’s ever been. Great congressmen, in particular, some of the congressmen have been unbelievable in pointing out what a witch hunt the whole thing is. So, I think it’s been proven that there is no collusion

Washington Post: In a 30-minute interview, President Trump made 24 false or misleading claims

Quote:
President Trump gave an impromptu half-hour interview with the New York Times on Dec. 28. We combed through the transcript and here’s a quick roundup of the false, misleading or dubious claims that he made, at a rate of one every 75 seconds. (Some of the interview was off the record, so it’s possible the rate of false claims per minute is higher.)

Is Amazon really ripping off the US Postal Service?

Quote:
Donald Trump went after the US Postal Service on Friday, claiming that the mail carrier is “losing many billions a year” charging low package rates, “making Amazon richer” and the Postal Service “dumber and poorer.”
Quote:
The US Postal Service’s financial woes are, by now, well-documented: In November 2017, the Postal Service made a net loss of $2.7 billion. Magnified over decades, that figure represents a cumulative net loss of more than $63 billion since 2007. That is “many billions of dollars.”
But break down the losses, and the situation is a bit more nuanced. Delivering packages, it turns out, is a growth business, and it actually makes the Postal Service money:The revenue from package increased $2.1 billion, and was up 11.8 percent for fiscal year 2017. The problem is the revenue from first-class mail — still the biggest source of the USPS’s revenue — is declining.

You have to understand the narrative being pushed forth in order to further stratify the masses into keep them fighting among themselves. Certain parties know they cannot afford for middle America to find common cause with both coasts. Fear of the other is not confined to the the undocumented, the refugees, or any other immigrant on another level you have become the "other". Just realize that the name of the game is to break everyone into enough pieces so everybody is fighting everybody else and the powers-that-be end up with the prize.

Spot On, Brian and Diamelsx,

The division that is crippling our country needs to stop, or at least slow down... We are all Americans first. Party should be way down the list....

Full disclosure: I live in a Blue State and a Blue County.

It's a fact that Blue states support the Red states...and further down the food chain...Blue counties support the Red counties. I don't begrudge my tax dollars flowing to more needy Americans, because they are my countrymen. Red states need roads too.

It would just be great if Red voters would finally realize that Trickle Down Economics doesn't work and it never has. Stop going to bat for the 1%. Higher tax rates on the very rich keep that money in circulation instead of sending that money to off shore tax havens. There's a reason why the 1950s kicked ass,(Socially not so much) high tax rates on the very wealthy kept more money in circulation.

To be very frank, I would be ok with much of what I consider repressive social policies of GOP politicians, as long as they got their head straight economically.

That said, I'm a white male, so I'm not giving up very much.

Is that a trade any of you would make?

A more Conservative social fabric for a more sensible economic policy that served the overall populace better?

Less Social Justice for more Economic Justice?

Interesting comparative analysis of 45 and a recently departed resident of the state.
