It wasn't my idea to invite President Trump for a state visit, but fact is we British did invite him. It may well be that we shouldn't have, but there's no denying that we did.

In that case, I think we need to receive him courteously as a guest, in order to respect our Queen, who is forced to play host to him, and to respect ourselves. I don't agree with the demonstration scheduled tomorrow and I am sooo not surprised that Jeremy Corbyn will be speaking. I noted as well Mayor Khan's chippy little comment that it would be wrong to roll out the red carpet for Mr Trump's visit to the UK and I can't help thinking that a man with nothing better than this to say should keep quiet. To be fair, Mr Trump seems to enjoy baiting Mayor Khan for no good reason (except bigotry and Islamophobia, obviously) so he deserves Mayor Khan's sneering remark; but that's a reason, not an excuse.

He's here for a few days only. I think we should respect ourselves even if we can't respect him; and carry ourselves like we are old enough to drive.

No, you're not missing anything, except that Mr Corbyn isn't stupid at all. He's a total prick - that's not quite the same thing.

He's an ideologue. Not his biggest fan but he's been on the right side of history and ahead of the curve on many things including the Iraq War and the Northern Ireland peace process.

It's becoming increasingly more likely the US will have a different president next year so it might be shrewed on his part to not take part in the visit- it'll upset most Labour voters and he'll also get called a hypocrite by the Tory press later down the line.

Well you've got the increased likelihood of criminal proceedings and some Republicans are slowly coming out against Trump. There's a multi-state push for Trump's tax returns + judges now pushing for impeachment. The ongoing trade wars are likely to damage the US economy. There's also an election next year and Trump only won last time because people hated Hilary Clinton. Think the odds of him being president for a 2nd term are pretty low all things considered.

I wish that were true. From his first day in office Trump has worked full time on engineering another Holy Roman win. There is no way he can get a majority of American voters to support him.

Except the only Democratic candidate that has a hope of winning against Trump is Biden, and Biden is a bit wonky. And old.

And he recently said his "top legislative priority" is LGBTQ rights. Gee, Joe, what about the millions of middle class working people you guys used to stand up for, you know, all the ones who have lost their good jobs in manufacturing and farming?

As all the wealth continues to trickle inexorably into the hands of the one percent, the "Democrats" turn their heads away from this the biggest of issues whenever it is brought up, like a chicken turning its head away from the hatchet.

Sellouts.

Which is why Trump was elected in the first place, people are sick of the "Democrats" and their slate of edgy issues. People don't care about whether a tranny has the right to use the girls bathroom, but they do care about having enough money to put food on the table and send their kids to college.

Pandering to sexual minorities is not the way forward, not if you actually want to "make America great again".

Firstly, I'm sorry you don't like LGBTQ people.

Biden is the moderate ticket. Going for a socialist candidate is risky, likely to put off older swing voters. He's conservative on some issues and can deliver conservative sounding rhetoric convincingly.

That said, I can't see him really inspiring the electorate but time will tell. I think it would be dangerous if the Dems have to campaign mostly negatively to compensate for Biden's lack of spark. Also not being Trump probably isn't enough.

Also, there's a high chance the 'sleazy Uncle Joe' narrative will get heavier after the primaries.

I know President Trump is divisive (to say the least) but he is a democratically elected President, and I think diplomatically our invitation is to the Office of President rather than the person. To this end I think it should get our respect.

Up here in Manchester, one or our Councillors yesterday said he (Trump) would never be invited to Manchester. How is it right that one Councillor (albeit in a totally Labour Authority) speaks for all of us. Many many Mancunians would love to meet him. How else can we enter into any sort of dialog.

As for his spat with the tw@ of a London Mayor, lets have round two

The way I see it he was invited to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D Day landings, what I see is those who oppose Trump as politicising an event where politics just does not belong at all, Trump is there representing the US as the current Oval Office occupier. It's a slap in the face and disrespect for the fallen of WW2 to politicise it.

I'm not going to just single out the anti Trump people with this next comment but the PC left in general, they are their own worst enemy because until you actually respect a majority decision and stop behaving that your own opinions is the only way you'll never get want. It's quite OK to oppose and voice an opinion but to demonstrate like spoiled kids, demonise other others opinions you're no better than Trump himself, I've said I ain't no great fan of his no do I dislike him, but I'll respect his office and the decision of the US public.

Grow up and act your age lefties, you've lost me for good I think being an ex leftie.
