Default Are You Pro or Anti Choice?

We've got the Politics Thread and the Gun Control thread (Newtown) - how about going for the trifecta?

Do you believe that women should have the choice to determine what happens with their body?

I'm sure the discussion will be spirited and lively, but let's keep it respectful.

First off - I present to you an article from middle America;

North Dakota abortion clinic vows fight against tough new state laws

CHALLENGE TO ROE V. WADE

The new North Dakota restrictions, as well as a ban approved in Arkansas on most abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, are new challenges to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade that legalized the procedure in 1973.

Pro choice always

I am not however entirely pleased when repeated terminations are used in place of adequate prophylaxis. There are costs to the NHS and high risks to the patient, not least of which is Pelvic Infammatory disease.

No surprise that I'm pro choice.

I really don't want others telling me what I can and can't do either.

I get the argument of life begins at conception and so there is harm to a victim and so forth. I just don't agree with that premise and neither did the majority of nine guys in robes when it came to a vote (in the U.S. anyway).

Outlawing abortion would not prevent abortion no more than outlawing marijuana would prevent people from smoking it or outlawing alcohol would stop consumption.

In the case of a single woman, she can do what she wants.

And a married woman? Once she gets hitched she gives up the right to do what she pleases with her body?

I'm pro choice because a woman should have control over her own body, but having a husband would complicate things if only because his wishes would also need to be considered. Sometimes two people could have very different views of what should be done and contrary to most Lifetime scripts its not always the man that wants to terminate.

We've already dealt with that;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremblay_v._Daigle

At the end of the day, the woman left the province to have an abortion, before the case reached the Supreme Court - and the decision was moot, although it was judged in her favour.

As a husband, what are you going to do? Stop her from traveling somewhere to abort the pregnancy?

Either they have the right to decide, or they don't. Just because they signed a contractual agreement to a civil union (marriage) does not mean she gives up her rights to do with her body as she pleases, does it?

You then open up a slippery slope where unmarried women can have an unimpeded choice, while married women cannot? How about equality under the law?

Unless you're married?
