Boy, this whole Page 3 situation is bringing back BAD memories.

For over fifty years here in the States a small African American publishing company, Johnson Publishing Company, has put out a small pocket magazine called Jet. Jet was ostensibly a news magazine, and during the period from the 1950's through the 1980's it was. It's now more like a Black version of Entertainment Weekly. But what made the magazine famous, at least to men was the "centerfold" featuring a model in a swimsuit. The majority were "girl next door" types with professional models and actresses thrown in for good measure. Future Playboy Playmates like Azizi Johari and Rosanne Katon graced the pages of Jet (see below).

During the mid-'60s a yearly Jet Calendar featuring partial nudity was published. Today it's a collector's item.

When the founder of JPC stepped down his daughter took over. The first thing she did was abolish the calendar, circa 1983. This went past without much fanfare. However, several years later "Miss Smarty Pants" committed the ultimate sacrilege by eliminating the weekly "centerfold". The result was that sales apparently plummeted. Surprise surprise, the feature was reinstated.

So, to my friends across the pond: you should organize a boycott of The Sun.
