My theory is that shaving was popularized by American radio DJ Howard Stern who repeatedly stated on his program that he preferred the totally shaved look. I think Stern is responsible for popularizing shaving in the porn industry and among the general public.

It's diffult to say when things changed for certain but I would say sometime in the 1990s - and in the US before here in the UK. In sorting out and reviewing my copies of Club - that runs bar a few omissions from late 1989 through to the present, I have been planning to do an analysis on pubic hair, listing the number of models with full muff (that's above and surrounding the lips), a "top muff" (a triangle of pubes topping a shaved cooch), landing strip and bald.

Looking through a mag from the late 1980s, nearly all of the models had full muffs, while the transatlantic ones had top muffs; by the 1990s, the bald look had started to make a showing, to the point where most models these days are bald, and where anything more than a smattering of hair is very rare. Pubic hair has, in a way, become as much a fetish as bald cunts were in the 1970s and 1980s.

I do however think that porn is simply following fashion rather than setting it - it is not porn that is making increasing numbers of women shave the lot off down there, want ugly breast enlargements or cover themselves in tattoos - two other things I absolutely hate. My first girlfriend (around twenty years ago now) had a rich carpet of red muff, something that would elicit a "wow" if she peeled her knickers off today. On the other hand, two of my exes during the 1990s were at any time either landing stripped or bald. While my first g/f wore briefs, the later two wore strings or thongs which, of course, would look ugly with a fluffy thatch.

So I think it's a mix of fashion trends and practicality.

One thing I particularly used to hate about bald cunts is that when the stubble starts to grow back doing the "business" down there can be pretty painful - it was like nestling a brillo pad.

Women have never displayed body hair. When around the time of the Great War, women began displaying first their armpits and then their legs, they promptly began shaving both. When the bikini got smaller and smaller, the muff was certain to go.

Having many non-sexual friendships with women, I feel I can state that the trend will change when the concept of what is "gross" changes. I remember when I was a college student mid 80's, and for something different would try to get a girl to let me shave her. The answer was always "no way, thats gross!" I've had women tell me that hairless=unhygenic, that their doctors had told them that being bald opened them to yeast infections, etc.

Then by the late 90's or so when I got divorced, I learned that now, hair = gross. a girl that doesn't shave at least most all of it off is not well groomed. To have a bush is to be dirty, and not in a good way.

So until women stop thinking that having hair on their cooter is gross, the bush isn't making a comeback in any meaningful way.
