Default Colour adjusting movies?

Can anyone tell me what software I need to re-encode and adjust colour on movie files? Like Strannik did with this file.

Thanks.

You're looking for "filters." VirtualDub, XMedia Recode and Avidemux all have filters onboard that can correct color. But if you don't mind some extra effort, I highly recommend getting to know Avisynth.

Default Color "injection"/restoration?

Pardon the silly question, but is there any way to "inject" or restore lost color/hue back into a film? Like a washed out loop where some of the color spectrum has faded away (leaving all reds, all blues, etc) I have seen this done with single images/photos but is there an associated tool in the video world that does this in a batch context (e.g. every video frame) ?

Send up a sample. I'm not optimistic, but if something did work we might get a tutorial out of this yet.

Something like this example. Here someone has done some crude correction to compensate. The end result is OK but not ideal. I am sure there are other tools out there but I haven't sampled what is available. I guess this would be somewhere between colorization and correction if done correctly.

In the example below I used the AviSynth filter ColorYUV, followed by the Tweak filter to fine tune the result. See also: RGBAdjust.

Thanks for this and the tips. This is more than half way there. If there were some additional color temp/balance and hue chroma/saturation controls in addition to this I would reckon you would get about 90 percent of the way to restoring the original. I recalled one or two commercial tools to do this and the results were pretty good too. I am surprised no one has entered this market full swing. There still must be thousands of washed out films both "blue" and conventional.

I've been trying to fix a few films colorization with Virtualdub. Here are few great filters to try out.

CMYK Film Filter
Gradation Curves which supports adjusting the RGB, CYMK, YUV, HSV and Lab channel levels. Lab works great against some of those old degraded 16mm/8mm film captures of course the more spectrum of colors from original scanning/capture the better.
AutoLevels by EOD

Can't wait to see filters based on some AI algorithms that will make fixing colors light years better.
