Not sure whether to feel for those people who are already trapped in their attic with at least a day of torrential rains and downpours still coming;
right now the rain is coming down at 3-4 inches per hour. They were told to leave and they didn't like the 150 or more folks in the coastal town of New Bern in the following article: https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/14/us/hu...wxc/index.html Quote:
Rescuers can't get to them with the rising floodwater and high surges and strong winds and most of the eastern part of hurricane outside its eye still off the coast. If you are in the attic and the water is rising in the rest of the house below you, you better have something that you can use to break through the roof and cut a hole large enough for you climb out on to the roof. Even at that, once you are on the roof, you are subject to the elements: rain, wind, cold, hyporthemia setting in and pray that the flood water doesn't keep rising to cover the roof up. Either way, your chances of being dead are pretty high. Here's the prediction ahead: Quote:

There must have been a serious problem with the lines, or else the gas company would not have been "upgrading". I wonder why all the leaks and fires INSIDE the houses? Sounds like overpressure in the system just blew out the valves in appliances. There's no real excuse for that on the part of the gas company. You'd think modern meters would have an automatic shutoff if there is an overpressure condition. My electricity and water now have electronics built in that let some guy in a van read the usage remotely, can't they build in some safety features for gas meters?

I've no real idea what the most sensible option is, but in my case, I might be willing to risk staying on if the odds seemed acceptable. |

Watched the news last night and saw rain lashing into Wilimington and then later this afternoon huge waves coming in across the sea-it must be terrifying for anyone who thinks they can ride out this hurricane or storm; would have been better to get out fast.
You know that Blur song Parklife with the line "I get up when I want except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awaken by the dustman..." well two days running now it has been for me "I get up at 9.30am when I've been rudely awaken by a chainsaw!" Two doors down had their huge tree in their garden felled bit by bit and they started at 9am but it is almost impossible to ignore the whine of the machine. Unless the tree is ill or dead they may gain their garden space back but it means losing some privacy from the maisonettes in front of it.

That will be a very bad way to die, trapped in the attic with the water rising to the top of the inside of it, and no way or mean to put a hole into the roof to climb out.
Unless you can hold your breath long enough to swim down through the ceiling panel (floor of the attic) and through the 2nd and 1st floor and out of the house but you may still drown after being pulled away by the raging flood waters. |

Russia and China are now in cahoot worries me.
World War III is coming and USA may not exist after that. Can't fight Russia and China at the same time on different fronts even if it's just a conventional war and at the same time still have to fight ISIS/ISIL and terrorists. |

I think they probably and pretty reasonably thought that by 9.30 most normal non-shift working people are up and about and not lying in bed dreaming about last night's marathon babestation session Maybe you should hang up a sign alerting them
