Well, the U.S. is a bit different. Thus far this year citizens killed by "Islamic terrorist scum" is zero. Citizens killed by "White Christian Terrorist Scum" is 150+.

You have put your finger on the problem bequeathed to the U.S. by the Bush Regime. The men sent to Guantanamo Bay were an assortment ranging from red-toothed monsters to innocent travelers sold to the U.S. by greedy Afghans. After 15 years we think we have sorted out and released the innocents.

But Bush spent years claiming that these folk are not prisoners of war, so they were not entitled to the protections accorded P.O.W.s.

So his minions dutifully tortured them, getting no useful information. What information was extracted under torture cannot be used in a criminal prosecution.

President Obama proposed closing the Gitmo prison and moving the handful of folks to be prosecuted to a maximum-security prison in Illinois. The faceless fuckheads in Congress passed a law prohibiting him from closing the Gitmo prison.

BTW, why Gitmo, you might ask. Well, several SCOTUS decisions have held that individuals convicted by military courts who had never been in U.S. civilian jurisdiction cannot appeal to the SCOTUS. [Think: WW II war crime trials] Bush thought he was being clever by dumping them at Gitmo. All he succeeded in doing was getting SCOTUS to overrule those cases.

So here we are, with about 50 prisoners left who cannot be convicted, even by a military kangaroo court, but who have literally no rights.

Actually, they aren't.

As I understand the "public good" provision of your law under which they were deprived of British citizenship, it cannot be applied if the act would leave them stateless.

Since the provision is almost identical to the provision of Nazi law which allowed the removal of citizenship from two million Jews, I gather that it is used sparingly.

So does anyone know of which state they are citizens?

As a footnote, the United States can only revoke the citizenship of a naturalized citizen, and that only if there was fraud in obtaining the status. I gather that there is a chance the current Mrs. Trump may be subject to denaturalization on that basis once the Orange Ogre is dispatched.

Anyone who thinks that being white and Christian (or nominally so) means you cannot also be a terrorist and scum doesn't pay much attention to the news or even recent history. Anders Breivig for example?

But sad and deranged people who have access to assault rifles and go on nihilistic killing sprees aren't actually terrorists as such; they are merely scum.

Seems more of a cheap PR stunt to me. How is it the 'public good' if it means as a result they are totally immune from UK prosecution in or extradition to the UK to account for the crimes they have committed abroad, outside UK jurisdiction. Instead you are solely reliant on other countries that can apply their laws to them.

What you describe is "weather" - not the same thing as "climate change" .
