Classic rock songs you dare to not like.
I can not stand these songs.
Led Zeppelin: Stairway to heaven. Eric Captain : Layla Aerosmith : Dream on. This is not a trash talk about beloved bands or the songs mentioned. Like when you hear on the radio a countdown list over a holiday weekend of the top 100 rocks tunes might as well stop before top of list because whats the point. I actually like these songs, just are times, cant make it through them.

I've never liked Stairway to Heaven anyway. It belongs with Smoke on the Water, Free Bird & Layla as overdone. every single amateur rock band will do at least one of them during their set.
On the subject of overdone songs, I live near Liverpool (just far enough away to escape being a scouser). When John Lennon died I got some very angry looks when I said I was sick of hearing nothing but Imagine on the radio, You'd think he'd never written anything else! Oh, and Bohemian Rhapsody - I just hate it. |

Agree with all the above.
"Layla" especially - in my university days it seemed to be played about 10 times a night on the bar jukebox. It's not that good! As for Lennon, not exactly a rock song, but Happy Christmas (War is Over) drives me nuts. It's not what you'd call festive - a real downer - and reinforces John's monomaniacal belief that he personally invented the concept of peace. |

If you do it while that piece of pretentious overblown crap is playing I'll gladly run onto the bullet just to make it stop. Speaking of pretentious - anything by Radiohead except Creep belongs on the list. I remember hearing about a musical instrument shop somewhere who would fine anyone who picked up a guitar & played any song from a list on the wall - top of the list was Smoke on the Water, 2nd was Stairway to Heaven. Not a rock song by any stretch of the imagination but, when I was about 9 a huge hit was (brace yourself) Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep. It was written by Lally Stott who lived on the same street as me so everyone local bought a copy & played it incessantly, add to that it was hardly off the radio (it got to no 1 for fucks sake!!!) & i couldn't escape it. My skin still crawls at the mention of that crime against music. I think I'll have to lie down now for a while until the nausea passes. Last edited by Estreeter; August 3rd, 2017 at 12:00 PM.. I cannot stand the Bad Company song, "Shooting Star." I hear the first chords and I'm listening to something else.

I'm probably going to get butchered for saying Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell. Theatrical rock opera isn't my thing if that's what it's genre is called.

I think you left Hotel California off the list, mate
I'm not really a rock fan (though I like prog) but a few years ago I joined a covers band as singer having been coerced by a mate who was one of the guitarists. We played songs by Pink Floyd (great), The Police (yep), Lenny Kravitz (yes !) and a few other "classic rock" numbers. I only contributed one song and that was by Living Color - Love Rears Up Its Ugly Head. Once when we were rehearsing I asked why we didn't play something like The Beatles or Elvis - both artists I love, like most people I guess. I got shot down as to a man they said "No Beatles, no Elvis, no Stairway and no Smoke On The Water". Apparently most of the classics are no-goes ! Seems a bit daft being a covers band really .. anyway, I was still DJing soul and jazz which upset them even more |

Any song by Def Leppard simply turns me off.
