The Late Late Late Late Night Shows
Bloody hell, it's almost 4am, about too get some shut eye, and thought I'd start an appropriate thread before I do I've always been late night guy, since I was a kid. I love these shows, we had ours here, but when we finally got subscription TV in the mid 90's , I was hooked on them, Late Night With Conan O'Brien Umm, next

Not really late, late, late night. But I like the Colbert Report. I just think it's funny.
Went to see a live taping of the show last January when I was in NYC. I just walked up and got my name on the standby list and then returned a few hours later and got in. The pictures from the phone are: The queue on the way into the building. No Graffiti!; The actual pass to get in. You have to surrender it on the way in the studio; the inside of the studio waiting area before they let you in. They had a stand up comedian go on before Colbert came out. It was a fun time. Best of all --free. Great time, lots of crowd participation. Also went to the Late Show with David Letterman. The live taping is pretty much like watching it on tv. Almost no interaction with the audience. Dave seemed pretty bored like he had somewhere else to be.

As for Letterman.... I couldn't handle him, seemed way way too scripted. We had a show here in the later 80's and early 90's, Clive Robertson, Newsworld It was supposed too be the late night news edition... But he turned it into something else. He made it look like he didn't even want too be there and it was a major chore Very often he'd use facial expressions and sarcastic comments on serious and not so serious news events. It was brilliant

Im old enough to remember The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder back in the late 70s. It came on after Johnny Carson. I didn't really start watching it until its last couple years on the air since I was only about 16 then and I wasn't often allowed to stay up that late on school nights and only because he always had some cool guests on like KISS. It was more like an interview format like The Charlie Rose Show where there wasn't a live studio audience or a band. Snyder was considered pretty hip because of the types of guests he had on plus he had a relaxed manner, sitting around smoking cigarettes during the show. He later hosted The Late, Late Show for several years before retiring. That's the same show that's now hosted by Craig Ferguson.

I agree. Letterman is often touted as being pretty hip but I've never found him to be all that hip or funny. It's like his fans just enjoy laughing at every utterance he emits. And comes off very aloof. One of my co-workers went to a Jimmy Fallon show taping early and got to meet Jay Leno. Said he's very friendly and hands-on with fans. |

FINALLY someone has spoken out waht I had in my mind EVER SINCE! Letterman's gags always appeared static (hope this is right word). I stopped watching him. Not any amazing this guy. I preferred Leno in the 90's. Later he got lame. But he was spirited before.

^^^Yes, I prefer Leno as well. His jokes may be kind of corny at times but I feel he's more of a genuine guy you would actually want to hang out with and have a beer and a grilled cheese sandwich. He gets a bad rap but I'd rather sit and watch his show than watch Letterman try to "out-cool" his own guests.
I don't have a real opinion about O'Brien. He's kind of a "man-child" with his goofy schtick. I'd much rather watch Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmell but truthfully I rarely get to catch any of these late night shows anymore because that's my "whacking" time. |

But I really did like the Late Night TV spoof The Larry Sanders Show That show was brilliant in the way it could be a show within a show...... And I really liked that Hank character That show was a must at my place, don't think I missed an episode.

And it's easy to laugh when everyone else does. The trouble is, I mostly have no clue who or what he's talking about |
