One can find both of these on the internet. Which one is right? It looks as though somebody has been busy with PhotoShop to produce the second.

Not quite. They're both correct as the MF cover of V17/1 was different for
the UK market and the european market.
The UK version had Amanda wearing a bra. Probably something to do with
UK law at the time.
The one on the right is the european copy of the magazine. I have that issue
so I can vouch for its existence.

It was very common for Mayfair to depict girls presenting shapely bottoms on the cover without a trace of underwear, making the magazine masturbation material even before it was opened. If the UK "authorities" were worried about teenage boys spending too much time "appreciating" the beautiful Mayfair babes, they should at least have been consistent in their censorship and banned knickerlessness on covers altogether. Even in the "continental" version here, Amanda Cass could possibly have been wearing a G-string (although she probably was not), since the thong could have come out below the hem of her pleated tartan mini-skirt. For Jill Peters here:

, 18 months later, though, even a G-string would have been impossible.

I like the continental Amanda Cass cover better, but she should have been wearing a top as then the whole thing would look more like a spontaneous gesture ("Look at how much force this helium balloon has!" she says - but you are not allowed then to mention the fact that this shows that she is not wearing panties).

I don't know if there's any interest here for this sort of info, but in case there might be . . .

In the previous posts by zorin: the pics from Mayfair Vol 17 No 1 were scanned by Isambard; the Fiona pics from Fiesta and the Amanda set from Escort are courtesy of hattertim.
