Am interested in your (hopefully unbiased ) take re Jays hire for new manager http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5722804 |

Actually, I'm more that way about the Flyers losing 6 straight Finals appearances including last year's lame ending.
I've long since been resigned to the hopeless fate of the Leafs P-dog, you thanked q for that comment... and after I threw my support to you to win this week's pool Us 'boys fans have to stick together - we're badly out-numbered here Last edited by wozhere; October 25th, 2010 at 12:43 AM.. |

Has Brad Childress lost the locker room?
Doesn't appeal the GB touchdown...near the end of the half, runs out the clock near midfield with 2 timeouts. Has Favre AND Moss raising their hands...
Is it just me, or are there a lot of calls going against the Vikes? I think the Moss call was probably OK...but flags on uncatchable balls...waved off TD... I dunno...home field calls? |

And yes I am pulling for you if in the running. We Cowboys brethren need to stick together. You think I want a Stealers or Gnats avatar?

Unbiased Opinion OK, here's the way I see it. I'm not a big fan of turning a Pitching Coach into a manager at all. What do Pitching Coaches know about hit & run, bunting & stealing? Pitching Coach is an important job, but I just don't know of any that became great managers. But, John Farrell is a different kind of Pitching Coach. He worked very closely with Terry Francona & I've seen games where Farrell would take over as manager when Francona got ejected from the game. Now, the way I see it, the Jays needed to make a big splash to offset a legend like Cito Gaston retiring. They couldn't just promote somebody or pull a Buck Martinez from the ESPN booth this time. They needed to send a positive message to their fan base. In that regard, I think this was a great move. The Jays have one of the most talented group of young starting pitchers I've seen since Florida in '03. So, to hire a manager who's also a pitching coach, plays to the strength of the team. In that regard, this was a great move. But, let's look at Boston's starting pitching last year as an example. Josh Beckett was miserable last season & really only has had one good year for them since coming over from Florida. Daisuke Matsuzaka hasn't panned out for them either, other than his 1st year coming over from Japan. But, John Lester & Clay Buchholz have developed nicely under Farrell. Not to mention Jonathan Papelbon (Poo-Poo Bomb ) in the bullpen. Overall, I would have to say that the man has a pretty good track record developing young pitching talent. My Biased Opinion By the way, I am a bit bitter about the MLB playoffs, but how can a brother be broken when he has 27 Championships? Not Possible |
