trimming AVI in windows 10
I need to trim an AVI
found the link below to open the file w "pictures" and trim it i mark the 2 points and my only option is to save as, the instructions on the link say "save a copy" (which is not an option) so u try to SAVE AS and tell it where to save it. i see a blue progress bar so i assume it is processing. it stops after the blue bar completes but there is o file in the location? look here..i followed everything https://www.technipages.com/windows-...-to-trim-video can i do this simply w/out having to add or buy another program? ideally this windows/photos thing would work but it is not saving a file |

The comments mention several potential problems, including that it changes the frame rate. Not good if that's the case.
For AVI I'd recommend using VirtualDub (free). Set Video and Audio both to Direct Stream Copy, place your markers on keyframes and then Save as AVI. When done correctly the copy is lossless. https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/virtualdub_portable |

Virtual Dub's Full Processing Mode is what gave you the huge file.
Go to Menu bar, then Video -> select "Direct Stream Copy" Audio -> select "Direct Stream Copy" File ---> select "Save as AVI"

Avidemux is quite similar to VirtualDub. I haven't used VirtualDub in years but I remember back in the days it couldn't handle the mp4 or mkv container. Maybe that's changed? But in any case, Avidemux does, including avi.

I haven't used a recent version of Avidemux, but last time I tried it the copy mode didn't make an exact copy of the AVI clip. The file size was slightly larger and some of the parameters were altered. Maybe they've fixed that in newer versions.

You can add the plugins for mp4 and mkv.
