That's okay neither do most UKers, Aussie's, or American's. I can't speak aboot Canada because not many understand them anyway.

Given the vast disparity in populations and declining Russian birthrates, it would seem that China could occupy these lands whenever it deems the situation favorable. It is a nuclear power, after all, and will soon be the world's largest economy again.
Just like Russia.

I'd like to ask anyone out there who is specifically Russian the following question:

What did people think of Ronald Reagan when he was President?

I may have seen in a YouTube video that the Soviet leadership thought he would push the button... and distinctly recall a propaganda poster of him dressed like a cowboy!

Well, I am not Russian. But I know that Reagan's Alzheimer's disease was known to the Soviets. In addition, there was his childish belief in the US as the realm of good, the Soviet Union as the realm of evil, the armageddon of an invisible God and the effectiveness of a nuclear first strike doctrine.

What would you expect?

I don't know about the Reagan perception in Russia but here's a cartoon by famous Austrian cartoonist Manfred Deix. It depicts Reagan as an unpredictable clown because of some statements like the ony in which he claimed he'd bomb Russia in five minutes:

I think that the reason Americans chose him in elections (1980 & 1984) is that he was perceived as a strong, resolute, anti-communist who also pledged to restore the economy.

But I think that Republicans must have chosen him because he was an actor! During the early '80s, when Andropov and Chernenko (spelling?) were running the USSR, he used his rhetoric to basically scare the shit out of them and convince them he would be willing to push the button. At the same time, some of the things he was doing (like aiding the mujahideen in Afghanistan and pursuing Able Archer '83) exposed that the USSR was in some ways weaker than people thought at the time. Then in the later '80s, when Mikhail Gorbachev was in power, he reversed his tactics and chose to negotiate arms reductions and diplomatic solutions.

I suggest the '80s documentaries by CNN that were on U.S. television, including "Tear Down This Wall", for a perspective on the last decade of the Cold War that is more liberal due to the network's views, but still respectful of Reagan's political abilities (remember that most Americans, even Democrats, had a positive view of him in the '80s)...

I will agree that his remark about "We begin bombing [Russia] in five minutes" was very irresponsible, but so was the USSR appointing Communists in place of qualified nuclear scientists at Chernobyl. So I guess that America and Russia are about even.

No one will ever press a red button. One question - Why? The modern interpretation of the "new cold war" between the West and Russia does not withstand the elementary socio-political criticism. So only a philistine can think that modern "elites" will follow the path of self-destruction. What is the point for Russian officials (who have large savings in the West) to try to destroy this "west". The political background that we see on our television channels is just a way to direct the consciousness of the electorate in the direction that benefits the elites. Sanctions and other nonsense are all lobbies of economic interests of certain power groups. This is a poker game at the same table. And nobody wants to turn the table over. Nuclear weapons are just a guarantee. And nothing more. The modern political elite has common interests. In fact, globalization has reached its climax to the elite. A person who is 8 months out of 12 is outside his country (business trips, meetings, UN meetings) has long been turned off from purely national discourse.

It was like that at the time of Reagan, and during Putin and Trump will be.
Reagan? What can I say. Reaganomics, joked a lot, sometimes even funny. Cowboy? It is a hint at his acting past. No one in the USSR believed in a nuclear war. In those days (the late 80's), the Soviet people was more than what was happening in his own country.
I better like Jimmy Carter. And his epic struggle with the "predatory rabbit" ...=D
