What seems unclear at the moment is what punishment will there be for those found to be viewing the banned content. I don't see anywhere that says what happens if people are caught with banned content on their computer. Will it be a sexual offence for example to watch the banned content resulting in people being jailed?

Sorry, but I'm doing an "I'm Alright-Jack" on this proposed legislation.
As long as VEF and Vee survive, I'm alright jack. The stuff that is targeted is fine by me, but place it in a credit-card ghetto, to let the true pervs have access and the 'watchers' to decide what is and what isn't legal / allowed / banned etc. The resultant court cases will be led, I suppose, by this decades Gary Glitter and Jonathon King. Not to mention Pete Townshend -The Who {UK celebs/musicians, that got "found out"} If Cliff Richard has a load of scat an horsey films..whatabout Princess Anne?....I'd say, lock 'em all up VEF has pretty strict rules, and although me meself only get on the Modern Forum by accident ~ following particular posters ~ going by the Titles I read around about, VEF should be safe. WE are dealing with, in the main, public accessible and public domain items. Vintage and I'd think the Mod's only worries would be in that Modern Section. If anyone wants bestiality etc, put them in a credit-card ghetto, thus allowing them a kind of net-freedom but restricting dangerous censorship. And dubious censorship. The result? - Overwhelmingly the commonest answer was one!. People got married and that was that. The second most common answer was zero!! After one, as the number rose, instances became significantly rarer. Slightly more partners for younger people and more liberal cultures, but multiple partners is a much rarer phenomenon than commonly believed. So it could be argued, in extremis, that the only "conventional" act is straight sex between a married man and woman...or no sex at all! We all know that would ridiculous and potential fodder to every small-minded bigot on the planet! |

The legislation will definitely get passed because politicians willing to speak out against a pornography law are as rare as hen's teeth. It isn't directed at individuals but it will force ISPs to block contravening sites. Putting the porn stuff in there also helps the government enact other stuff that's flying under the radar, such as taking ownership of of any data you share with a government department.
Once this is enacted and everything comes under the BBFC, anything that wouldn't be aceptable to the BBFC - not just porn - will outlaw the website for viewing in the UK. That would include any site selling or hosting videos that aren't cut for UK viewing, for instance. Any action against individuals continuing to view the material banned in this bill will be under existing legislation. We'll have to wait and see if the CJIA or OPA are interpreted more widely in the future. Porn is just the start. Expect more restrictions on 'adult' sites in the future. 'Adult' in this case will be any site the UK government doesn't like or can't control.

Oh yes this is all just part of the wider plan for a Great Firewall of China type system to be put into place. Its easy to start with porn because as you say very few have the balls to stand up and fight against blocks. We still live in a country that is very old fashioned when it comes to sex. Its still talked about in hushed tones and in quiet corners. That is why consenting adult material can be banned without a fight. Funnily enough as we all know MPs are among the worst when it comes to fetishes and illegal acts. However its a case of do as a I say and not as I do as usual with these hypocrites.

If these acts actually 'deprave' or 'corrupt' individuals aren't the most corrupt and depraved people in society surely going to be the BBFC censors that will have to watch this endless stream of 'filth' all day?
They'll probably end up with MBEs and Knighthoods. Me the 13th Duke of Wybourne, Head of the BBFC? With my reputation? What can they be thinking of? |

Given that despite determined attempts by the CPS, most notably in the Peacock case, juries keep finding that things the CPS think should be "obscene" or "extreme porn" actually aren't, I don't think the landscape for prosecutions of individuals will change much. |

I think I've just about had enough of being told what I can and can't look at and being treated like some moronic juvenille deviant. There are already a list of things I simple don't want to look at and don't like. This includes child porn, eye surgery graphic stuff shot in slaughter houses, Islamic beheadings, etc, etc. I don't need some twat in government telling me what to do, with the aim of generating another headline for the Daily Mail or Express. Next, it might be political sites that are banned because they don't have official approval. Sadly, this is all part of a larger social engineering programme to take further control of us and shape our attitudes.
Is there anything we can do about it? Probably not much. Do I want to sign up to a list of online users with an interest in sites that have a sexual content? Probably not as this might just be used against me at some future point. With the snooper's charter now giving the government an astonishing amount of power and the ability to ruin what's left of democracy in the UK, we will soon find that we've literally sleepwalked into a surveillance and rights restricted society that's no better than China. |
