Why Are So Few Girls/Women Not Active With Their Fans ?
This has kinda been bothering me for a while -- why aren't more of the models, strippers, actresses, bikini girls, centerfolds, etc, using the internet to keep in touch with fans ?
I would think that it would benefit them financially -- imagine what they could get for signing stuff and re-selling old photos, posters, videos, etc -- plus it might be something they can 'relive' from their youth. I remember Debra Jo Fondren (1878 PMOTY) had a website a few years ago but I think it cost too much for her to maintain. Very few of the video girls, centerfolds, models, actresses, etc, that I grew up with still communicate with fans via the internet, autograph or model shows, etc. Any reason why ? Sports atheletes seem to do it for years and decades....not sure why these women don't want to do it, too. |

Fanatics
There's a big difference between athletes and nude models.
First, most athletes aren't typically in fear of being raped and/or killed by their fans. Second, most of those that want to correspond with the models are loners, losers, and very strange individuals. I can think of several Pl%yboy Pmates that have been stalked (or worse) by overzealous fans or previous lovers, including: Dorothy Stratton (murdered by former boyfriend) Stacy Arthur (husband murdered during break in) Anna Clark (stalked for years) Maintaining a website doesn't cost very much. Models drop out of public life when they don't need it anymore or want to put that part of their life behind them now. Think about it, if you were involved with a former model, would you want them corresponding with fans or giving their attention to you? Just my opinion. |

Very little or NO direct fan contact, if a girl so preferred it. Quote:

I don't discount the possibility but that risk was there when these girls were centerfolds or models or actresses or video starlets or bikini contest contestants....at this point in their lives, with most in their 30's or 40's or even 50's, I doubt you have some obsessed-psycho stalking them. Quote:
But I know that MANY of these girls or women are either married in circumstances where they live paycheck-to-paycheck or are single/divorced and put aside very little or NO money during their high-income but volatile earning years. I see that most porn stars -- ex or current -- have websites where they hawk stuff and/or do chats and other stuff for paying members. But I see very few ex-centerfolds, bikini contest contestants, T&A starlets, etc doing this -- and one reason I think is that most of these girls/women do NOT realize how many guys appreciated them during those times in the 1970's or 1980's or 1990's and still relish their performances years later. You goto these auto enthusiast sites and there's sometimes a bikini contest thread reminiscing about all the girls who participated in those contests, girls like Heather Kennedy, Julie Kruis, etc, especially for guys who saw them at car shows in the 1980's. You have LOTS of people fondly reminiscing, asking for video swaps, pictures, updates on the girls, etc. Especially true for the guys who attended these in California. The girls who grew up in the Age Of The Intenet/Blu-Rays/iPods/etc -- it will be interesting to see if in a few years when their careers are petering out if they, having grew up with this means of technological communication, still use it to make some $$$ and keep in touch with fans once they are past their prime. |

What gbt42dd said. I think far and away the obsessed fans issue are the biggest concern. They'll see a photo and think 1) that model is posing for them and 2) they're "talking" especially to the via the accompanying text and/or through body language (a look, a smile, etc.), 3) they've accepted a phantom marriage proposal or something along those lines.
I had wondered about Anna Clark, who's one of my favorites. For a short time, she kept ties with PB doing videos or photo shoots for their newsstand specials. Then she disappeared; no further public appearances or anything. I realize that some Playmates appear in the mag as a one-off thing before settling back into a normal life (if there is such a thing for them), and others milk it for all it's worth. Either way, none of them are really safe. Stratton's case was a little different. She was married to an insanely jealous and possessive husband. He discovered and made her career and didn't take it too kindly when she intended to leave him for Peter Bogdanovich. Paul Snider had that attitude that if he couldn't have her, no one else could, either. Hence the brutality of the crime. PB once had a special c/o address in which fans could send fan mail to their favorite Playmate(s). That was discontinued for obvious reasons. |

Of the examples gbt44dd mentioned, I only knew the Dorothy Stratton story, but after a little reading-up, I can totally understand that Stacy Leigh Arthur wouldn't want to draw attention to her past PB appearances after her husband was murdered by an obsessed fan... http://www.easybunnygirls.com/Playbo...-leigh-arthur/ The Arthur case makes it equally obvious why PB no longer provides the facility for fans to mail Playmates As ichabod said, it's surprising just how easy it is to find information about someone on the web- A few years back I Googled my own name, as you do, and the majority of the first results I found referred directly to me (I've got a relatively uncommon name) and my job at the time- it would have taken someone a matter of seconds to locate my place of work, my work email address and a direct-dial phone number to my office... |

What I was going to say has already been said in the previous posts. To amplify an earlier point, if Suzie Pornstar had an "Email Suzie" link on her website, lewd suggestions would overwhelm her site's capacity! Some dopes might think they were going to get to have sex with Suzie! Yay! Uh-oh, sounds like trouble. It's like guys who go to strip clubs and try to give their numbers to the dancers. It costs $100 for ten minutes worth of lap dancing and you think she's going to ball you for free?

To answer your question, as to why so few girls/women stay in contact with fans, I think that the issues that come to mind deal with security, safety, power, and exploitation.
Many responders here have talked about security. If the lady feels insecure about meeting her clientele, ie, men who purchase periodicals or videos which feature her nude, and possibly engaged in explicit sexual activity, then unless she's capable of defending herself, physically and psychologically, then it must be very intimidating for her to meet up with people who enjoy her sexually, albeit in a vicarious fashion, often in the privacy of their homes. Safety is virtually synonymous with security. With regard to power and exploitation, what I've noticed in places like high-class clubs which feature full-frontal nudity and more, is that it seems like there's a constant competition between the men and women as to who's in charge, in other words, 'who holds the reins, and cracks the whip.' I've known such women myself, and believe me, in the long run its always better, if you're not pining, yearning, aching, or 'jonesing' for their companionship. At least they don't treat you like a fool, and there is a mutual sense of dignity being maintained. Last edited by johnnywaddd; October 11th, 2010 at 07:54 AM.. |
