Even in August there are far more significant things happening in the world than the demise of an elderly singer.

More important than the Morandi Bridge disaster or the new Westminster Bridge attack? I would not have said so. But we live in a world where the doings of people on Love Island are treated as though they were newsworthy and whoever is going to be in Celebrity Big Brother is featured in news bulletins. This is an extremely decadent society.

Having said that, Aretha Franklin was a top notch singer and performer in her day, definitely one of the greats of Motown.

But imagine your hypothetical aunt died and you visit your unknowing hypothetical sister. Normally the first topic you mention would be aunt's death, right? If it's not, it's time to overthink your priorities, imho.

Mr Corbyn is opposed to all forms of racism, just as he is opposed to all violence. This is why he goes to Tunisia to share a platform with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, endorses Hamas, and more recently the Mahdi Army in southern Iraq when it was killing British soldiers there. Its all to express his devotion to peace and opposition to anti-semitism.

Since the question of politics has come up, it should be noted that Ms Franklin's father was a major figure in the civil rights movement and a personal and professional friend of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Ms Franklin was active and outspoken both in the civil rights movement and as a feminist. As a parting insult the right wing loons at Faux Noise offered a eulogy and displayed a photo of Patti LaBelle:

They've talked of nowt else .
The queen of our souls as Paul McCartney described her .

Strange then that they never mentioned her or played any of her records in the last couple of years I've listened to that station before she died ?

National Radio 2 usually is the place to hear tributes to dead singers with DJ's Ken Bruce and Steve Wright the ones to do so, but there are alot of radio stations that don't like that sort of music so won't play it. As I type this Trevor Nelson, sitting in for Ken Bruce is playing three of her songs in tribute.
Noticed that Sir Patrick Stewart has left the Labour Party thanks to Jeremy Corbyn.
