When did Hustler go hardcore?

I am not all that familiar with US mags, but it seems Hustler started out as an upper end soft mag (more pussy exposure), but nowadays is hardcore. I am interested in when it made the switch. Does anyone know?

Are you sure the XXX is in the mags, not just on the web?
Until a few years ago I was very familiar with what was (and legally could be) displayed and sold at a mainstream usa newsstand (eg, train station or conv store). Anyone of any age could just open the book and browse. So, no hard core. Hustler always had to be mainstream newsstand. Altho they were one of the first with softcore b&g sets, showing everything but penetration. That goes back to '80's at least.
I would guess about 10 years ago +/- they started putting mags in bags even when no cd, etc. Means only an actual buyer finds out what's inside. In practice this meant you could have anything in the mag, at least in a liberal place like nyc. A convenience store in the God-fearing South could be very different. They might even have diff editions for some locales. BL, I don't think it happened until the '00's, at the earliest.
