Hiram Big fantasies will have to be put on hold until most of this re-upping stuff is finished. I have already finished Hiram's new plan to make the desert outback into fertile cropland. Goodbye for now, signed Kevin

Better ask an Aussie
There are several different iwi in the SI. Quite a handy map, although with the obvious drawback that it neglects to note the overlapping/contested claims--similar to Europe, Asia, Africa... everywhere!

You'd be cheered up no end by the fact that today is the Winter Solstice. Not only are the days getting longer, but it's only seventy two days to the first day of Spring.

It's the opposite here -- summer solstice, the longest day and biggest festival of the year, although we actually celebrate it on the weekend. A beautiful, warm midsummer day here, +13C

It rained too, but the rain was warm

Unfortunately, on the celebration day many people get hammered and do silly things like fall off balconies, crash their autos, sink their boats and kill themselves accidentally. There's currently a web-poll for guessing how many people will drown themselves. The average is below 20, but if there are more than 20 this year and you guess right, you could win €1,000

Indeed - and once again V.E.F. Mods and Supermods gather to decide whom to single out for "special" treatment.

Stop playing pin the tail on the donkey, blokey.

... so which one is...

Nah, we're treated equally insane, here. We all get special (remedial) treatment from the mod squad.

hmmm... looks like winter darkness, not northern midnight sun. Must be the southern colleagues. It's never as dark as that here in summer, unless there's a thunderstorm or something

Do Australians get winter darkness?
