True words.

Respect to Dylan though.

Donovan dressed and looked like Dylan, played guitar and mouth harp like Dylan-but unlike Dylan, Donovan wrote mawkish flowery lyrics and got dragged into the phony idealism of flower power when he took off with The Beatles to hear the looney teachings of some so called mystic who was clearly a few cards short of a full deck. Donovan failed to accept the world as it was, only what he wanted it to be.The only two 'protest songs,' he ever recorded: Universal Soldier and The War Drags On, were written by other artists far more gifted than him. And what is Britain's answer to Dylan doing today? His time was sixty five to around seventy. More than fifty years on, Dylan is still with us and writing memorable songs. Ok, his last two studio albums were a homage to Sinatra. I feel he is just coasting. But at seventy five he has nothing to prove to anyone. And as a fan for over fifty years he certainly has nothing to prove to me. Long live the Bobster in whatever guise he chooses

When they're studing Dylan's lyrics from songs like "Blowin' in the Wind," "The Times They are a-Changin'" and "Like a Rolling Stone," songs like "Sunshine Superman" and "Mellow Yellow" will be footnotes.

Dylan is an original, Donovan was a Leitch
Both have been going for decades but most of us would struggle naming any of Donovan's songs whereas Dylan has a back catalogue of memorable songs.

No Women ... no Cry, but maybe when the next Bob (no not you Geldof, get in the queue behind Seger and that builder chap ) wins one they will get an honorary mention.

If I was in charge of awarding a musician a Nobel Prize for Literature, I'd have given it to Janis.

Will he or won't he?

Bob Dylan's Nobel silence 'impolite and arrogant'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37740379

I think this was meant to give the award a bit of street cred but it's like giving a recluse like Howard Hughes an award and expecting him to turn up.

I wonder how much it all means in the life of the average Joe anyway. To be honest, if my life depended on naming any Nobel prize winners, I'd be screwed.

I've got to ask the question.
Did he do anything original or was it all ripped off original English folk music with added "volume"?
(personally I don't understand Dylan, he's one of those people who don't leave an impression)
I find that frustrating. I get the impression that I am meant to be in awe of Dylan but every track I've ever heard just sounds same-ish

Songs - hardly "literature".
