What old techonolgy do you still use?
What old techonology do you still use. By old I mean techonology that started to be replaced more then 5 years ago or something like that.
I use 1) Still listening music from audio (compact) cassettes; 2) Do from time to time turn a V.H.S. V.C.R. (does haves some problems ). I generally feed it with is cassettes on which music clips are recodered; 3) Did get me an LaserDisc player. If in U.S.A. there are people how don't know about this techonology, you can realize that in Romanian, where fewer machine existed...; 4) Sometimes put a vinyl record on my recor player (turntable). But there is a lot of dust in the flat (apartament) and I need some connectors (the audio chain haves D.I.N. connectors...); 5) And sept. 1966 made East-German tube radio as amplifier; 6) When I have the chance I turn on an 1988 V.H.S.-C. 1 C.C.D. "Panasonic" M.C.-10 or take pictures with an "Minolta" X-700 film camera; 7) Use to 1982-1983 land (fixed) phones: an French rotary dial one and a "Western-Electric" 2500 Made in U.S.A. ; 8) And in the place where I live there is no flat panel tv!

I have a DVD player, (not BlueRay), but I haven't burned a DVD in 4 years, (okay except to give to someone else), but rather use the USB connector and as such can play almost anything on it. I do not have a smart phone so my phone is old technology. Mind you I haven't owned a landline for well over 5 years instead utilizing mostly free VoIP services so that should equal it out? I still use my CD player for music but am almost done transferring all of my vinyl and CD to FLAC lossless. My car is a 1988 Buick so you don't get much old tech than that! All of my TVs are analog. We are unsure in the family if we are going to drop cable entirely and just upgrade the computers to large multi-screens so I guess that is a combo of 'old technology with new pending'. An interesting question might be what old technology exists that is truly competitive with new technology? |

My car is 1998 BMW which has a 6-CD changer in the trunk, and a cassette deck in the dash, and I still listen to both. I do have a smartphone, but it's just 3G.

Vacuum tube guitar amplifiers... although they can hardly be considered old technology since they are still in production from a wide array of manufacturers.

Lets see...
Still have a landline telephone. The radio in my garage is about 45 years old. It has an 8-track player in it, but I don't know if it still works. My cell phone is just a phone, not a mini-computer. It doesn't even have a camera in it. Still have a couple of VCR's and CRT TV's. Both TV's have built-in DVD players. My car doesn't have power locks. It does have a cassette deck, which I've only used once. I occasionally listen to cassettes on my boom box. Like rlg, I have a working pocket watch. I recently had it repaired at a cost of more than the watch is worth. It's priceless to me as it belonged to the grandfather I never met. I still read the newspaper daily. I'm typing this on a desktop computer.

I design electronics for a living.
I do have an array of fast computers to work at, but the actual CAD system for schematic capture and PCB layout is a 100MHz Pentium running DOS 6.22. |

Well now,I'm currently watching Clint Eastwood on a TV so old that it has a tube. It is so old, We can't get Netflix, or anything like it. The volume on Our V*rgin remote doesn't work on it, We have to use the equally ancient TV remote. I'm typing this on a mid range laptop. We do have a landline, but We hardly use it. Most of the time, the only calls We get on it are recorded messages about PPI.
