Weird..? My toenails.

If the nails on my left foot are growing, the nails on my right do not (and vice-versa). They swap around at random intervals, usually every six to eight weeks.

OK, that is weird - literally just a pinch is all that's needed. Just one or two quick shakes from a standard salt shaker smooths the flavour wonderfully. And, of course, don't use boiling water, anything above about 97 degrees & the alkaloids start brewing out & that's what makes coffee bitter.

As you might have guessed, I take my coffee very seriously.
I decided to try salt in my coffee, and you're right - it really does seem to improve the flavour. Now, I'm not much of a coffee drinker, maybe two or three cups a week (yes, a week! I'm more a cold drinks man myself), so to be honest I don't really know good from bad, but adding just a small pinch of salt to my normal instant coffee takes away some of the bitterness.

I recommend it.

Ha! Weirdness vindicated at last.
Glad you like it, I was talking about real coffee but it improves instant as well. It's all a matter of getting the amount of salt right for you.

It could have been worse, my young niece made me a cup of tea once & added a spoonful of MSG from an unlabeled jar! Not recommended at all.

Weirdest thing I remember was one warm spring Sunday morning. Woke up, made tea for me and the wife as usual. The sun shone and one thing led to an other and in the middle of a long slow trip to heaven, I hear a miaow and some scratching on the duvet behind me.

We had some new kittens and I'd left the bedroom door open. Next thing I know a kitten is sitting on my bum padding her claws into me and purring her heart out as she enjoys the ride. The wife is purring cause she's enjoying her ride and I'm doing all the bloody work, again.

Mind you it turned the wife on and we spent most of the rest of the day in bed, but without the kittens.

I know salt was something added to coffee by naval engine room crews in the steam turbine era (WWII in the South pacific especially). Those engine spaces were extremely hot and you sweated a lot....so some salt in the coffee did help replace minerals you were sweating out and make you feel better.

Actually, putting a tiny amount of salt into your coffee isn't that weird. Many people do that.

And there is even a scientific explanation: The Na from NaCl is said to neutralize the bitter taste and enhance the aroma.
