Just give it to my daughter.

She fell asleep on her bed with her IBM ThinkPad and knocked it onto the floor - twice.

Darik's Boot And Nuke (DBAN); freeware

DBAN is a "block-erasure utility. DBAN overwrites each block on a computer's hard drive several times--up to standard levels specified for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the U.S. Department of Defense."

I DBAN my hard drive every year.

I blew mine up with some home made 'plastic' This was found in a 40's boys things to make on a summer holiday book.
Don't think the explosion had the same force as the weedkiller & sugar ones i used to make but it took down a 30ft Leylandii tree too.

Destroy or erase?

Destroy easily with a 12.7mm drillbit straight through

Erase is easy, reformat

Set the platters on fire. Very little chance of getting anything from them.
