I'm interested in playing other file types on my DVD player, too, so this thread is helpful. I guess a good place to start in this process is to look at my DVD player's manual and see if there is any info on the formats it supports.

My DVD player is also avi, xvid, divx and mp4 enabled, plus it has a USB input. This allows me to transfer movies from my PC using my 8gb flash drive. Additionally, since divx files are so small, the flash drive can carry up to approx 20 hours of films in one load and I don't need to use disks any longer - although the player will handle all the formats on disk as well. You should also bear in mind that Flick takes about ninety minutes (on my PC) to convert and burn a two hour DVD format disk. Player cost £25 (on offer) and the flash drive cost £10 - a pretty modest outlay for such a neat solution. |

Burning DVD's
A few movies have started to appear on the Classic Movies forum as fully fledged DVD files ( with .vob files etc )
They play OK using VLC or PowerDVD but does anyone know how to save these movies to DVD's that will play thru PC and DVD player? I imagine I'll be looking for a piece of software.... any links to freeware that does the job would be welcome. |

To save space at PC and at burning DVD/CD I convert DVD format to Xvid (AVI) and store at Data-DVD/Data-CD. Most of not too old DVD players are able to play Divx/Xvid format.
Same converting at DVD rip to generate smaller Xvid (AVI) files by 2 reasons: - easy video cut with AVIdemux - saving a lot of space and time at uploading to file hosts (free accounts) for postings like at VEF links to free XP software (no registration needed): Any Video Converter (please remove ".bin" extension) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?xozmhnnngdm Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum 4 (free serial number included) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?k5dnwlmwmqm Last edited by lds17pl; June 19th, 2010 at 05:46 PM..
