American Pro Football Player Lee Roy Selmon has died at the age of 56 from complications of a stroke he suffered last week. Selmon was a consensus All-American defensive tackle at Oklahoma University and the first pick of both the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 1976 NFL draft. He quickly became a dominant player and made 6 straight Pro-Bowls helping the dismal Bucs to make the playoffs for the first time in 1979. He was also named Defensive Player of The Year in 1979. A back injury ended his career in 1984. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. After his playing career ended he owned and operated a successful restraraunt chain in Florida. RIP Lee Roy Selmon.

Lee Roy Selmon also served as Athletic Director of the University of South Florida. With heavy hearts the Bulls marched into Notre Dame Stadium and upset the 16th ranked Irish on Saturday. So his former charges sent him out on a high note.

Everything thing I'm hearing was he was a great player and an even greater man. May the Lord grant him rest......................

Horrible news. Czech world champions Karel Rachunek, Josef Vasicek and Jan Marek are also among the dead. Other victims are Swedish goalie Stefan Liv and German national team player Robert Dietrich. Only one player survived with heavy injuries but seems like his name hasn't been confirmed yet. The plane was a Soviet Jakowlew 42 and had problems from the start. One of the best KHL teams has been wiped out.

The season hasn't even started and its already been a horrible one for hockey. Before the tragic events in Russia three players had already passed away.
Derek Boogaard from an accidental overdose, Rick Rypien a suspected suicide and recently retired Wade Belak from undetermined causes.

Cliff Robertson always struck me as a very decent person, without the usual 'Hollywood' airs and graces. It was his straight dealing that caused him to resent having to pay tax on some income that the IRS said he hadn't declared. The relatively small amount involved, $10000 supposedly for promotional duties on a film, turned out to be a cheque, forged by a senior exec at Columbia studios, David Begelman, for reasons only that troubled man could ever fathom. Begelman was on a roll at the studio having been instrumental in that studio producing Close Encounters amongst other box office hits. Roberston was seen by many insiders to have caused Begelman's fall from grace, however unfair that was, and Cliff's career suffered for many years after.

Its covered in depth in 'Indecent Exposure' by David McClintock.

Alexander Galimov, the only Lokomotiv Yaroslavl player to make it out of last week’s plane crash in Russia, died Monday at the age of 26, bringing the death toll in the disaster to 44.

Doctors said last week that Galimov had suffered burns over 80% of his body. The only other survivor, plane crew member Alexander Sizov, is expected to survive his injuries. Both had been taken from Yaroslavl to Moscow for treatment after the crash.
