Classic Striptease music
Hello al!
This is my first post on this forum. A Yahoo chat mate of mine introduced me and I like what I found very much indeed Like many of you, I guess, I "cut my teeth" on 80's and 90's porn mags, right from the heady days of finding a tattered and torn (and sometimes otherwise *ahem* abused ) relic laying in a layby or field, to trading your collection at school (mine had a very active porn mag trading network ), right up to the point where I could happily buy my own. Needless to say, since getting the internet in my house the old porn mags havn't got much use but amazingy I only threw my old teenage mag collection away this year! I've found that the internet has blunted my attitude to porn a little because you can always find whatever you want with a little searching. Back in the good old mag days it was a real treat when your latest trade or find contained something you could really get off over. Its that thrill thats missing from my porn life these days! Anyway, I thought I'd start off by discussing my own particular kink, which is anything to do with classic Striptease - especially the music. I particularly enjoyed reading the Traditional Strip and Pub Stripper threads. I did wonder whether to add my post to one of those, but since I want to focus on the music I decided to start a new one. For me, in order to be a proper strip it has to have a girl alone on stage, dressed in either a sexy outfit or the classic gown & gloves, strutting her stuff (rather than dancing) to a real old brassy, sleazy stripper tune. It absolutely has to have that music! In the end I got so frustrated in not being able to find the right combination of strip and music that I bought a CD of stripper music and played it over the videos I rented (trying for ages to start the CD at exactly the right time ) Eventually, I took to playing the same CD in the background while browsing magazines. I always liked magazine series with pics of the girl starting out dressed up , and removing her cothes a bit at a time. I also used to rent myself a lot or Fiona Cooper and Liquid Gold videos that featured girls stripping, but try as I might I could never really find a good example of a porn fim with a decent classic style bump&grind striptease in it. Its like that music plugs straight into my libido like Neo jacking (no pun intended) into The Matrix. I have a very eary memory of hearing David Rose's "The Stripper" played on the radio when I was far too young to really understand what the hell it was all about, and yet it still made me feel all lhot and uncomfortable, like I was experiencing something I shoudn't. I don't know. Maybe a coupld of billion braincells fused at that moment and I've been conditioned to react that way ever since! This is where the internet came in handy. I was finally able to search out other people who shared my fetish for stripper music, and proper striptease porn - or so I thought. I was amazed that even on the internet there was still practically no decent striptease material around. As I started to build up a collection of pictures I found appealing, I took the somewhat desperate measure of setting up my own website entitled "Glamourous Girls in Gowns, Gloves and Garters" where I put up galleries of girls suitably attried for a proper strip. There was also a page where you could download MP3s (pretty new at the time!) of a few stripper tunes that I had managed by now to sample onto my PC. The site ran for maybe two years and in the end I ran out of time to run it. In all that time I made contact with only one other person who truly shared my love of classic striptease music. This was maybe -hmmm- ten years ago??? Since then, a couple of things have happened. First, there is a hell of a lot more music available on the web and i have been able to search out quite a decent collection of classic stripper tunes. I could have a lot more but I only keep the ones I find most appealing I have 27 tracks in total at the moment. Also, the neo-burlesque movement has truly taken off. Unfortunately, because there is also such a strong "mainstream" stripper scene *by which I mean pole dancers, which I don't consider to be stripping at all) this has been somewhat taken over by the alternative crowd. Burlesque does not mean "fat". Burlesque does not mean "tattoos and pericings all over your body". Burlesque does not mean "cross-dressing". yet probably 70% of the stuff you will find on YouTube if you do a search for "burlesque" will fal into one of those categories. There are some absolute gems out there, though. Watcing Girls like Dita Von Teese are practically what I got into the internet for (although I actually find her routines a bit too long and a bit too "fetishy"). I've taken the liberty of including a few links to the routines I like best: Orchard Mei: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdQbv_8Fxjc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPZyIpr3AqI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWzWuoKRI_U Miss Pason http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcmZZ...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1irA02XKNY There were several more that I liked but sadly it appears that they have either been removed or I have forgotten how to find them! However, one clip that has long been a fave or mine is the stag show scene from the Steptoe and Son movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKDub6UXSCk I actually had to watch this with my parents as a hornone-filled teenager. Can you imagine the agony!? I actually caught it on a repeat the following year while still living at home and secretly taped it. I enjoyed that for months after! Anyway - enough of me banging on. I'd be very intrested to know if anyone else gets off on classic stripper music as much as I do. |

I don't get off on it so much now but I have always argued(and cited many programmes on tv that had strippers) that jazzy style music and stripping goes very well and Dita von Teese is a classic example, mind you it would be a brave man to call her sleazy.
I too used to get aroused by strippers on tv and in films-somehow rock music just seems to be the wrong thing-thats progress for you. Sometimes I post clips of models that were posted before with the most appalling 80's soundtrack redone with a jazzy tune and it looks and sounds a lot better-although its not always everyone's cup of tea. I know what you mean about the Stripper music from David Rose but I once heard it played by another band or orchestra type and it was ten times hotter and made you a lot hornier too. I have not heard it since. If you want an example of my 're-working' of a strip scene with different music see either Jacqueline Luis thread http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...acqueline+Luis OR Louise Leeds http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...t=louise+leeds A good scene to look for is the middle and towards the end of flim "Marlowe" with James Garner-Rita Moreno does a strip which whilst it is obvious she is wearing a body stocking is still hot and the strip of Cyd Charisse in "The Silencers" in the opening title sequence.

http://youtomb.mit.edu I did a search for "striptease" and found well over 50. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and links. I like a good striptease, too, but i'm not as avid a fan as you clearly are. Any suggestions as far as good CD's with the music? FYI, about a year ago, CxL posted to usenet 22 volumes (capped from VHS) from a series called CLASSIC STRIPTEASE & GLAMOUR FILMS. Thankfully, DubSalute ripped and shared them here: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?t=10875

Someone came up with the term "tittyshakers" to describe music in this vein
google the term and you'll find some websites with recommended listening |

Its an interesting site under construction still but not quite the vein of this thread's topic which is more jazzy rather than sixties beatnik. Might be worth a look for some.

I think what is needed for this sort of thing is more your muted trumpet, slow drum and other types of 'sleazy' jazz type music-it seems to fit but back then it was probably very popular. If you haven't looked already try some of the links above-they illustrate this perfectly.

Ah - a few more posts. You're right - it is a slow burner ;-)
I guess the best source of classic stripper music it "Take It Off - Striptease Classics" which contains my personal faves "The Stripper" by Davis Rose and "Bumps and Grinds" By Sonny Lester. Readily available from Amazon and the like. The next best CD is called "Music of the Stripper" and it is a whole bunch of striptease tunes all performed by David Rose's orchestra. Its available to download from a site on the internet but I', not sure about the legaity of posting up links to copyrighted material here, so I won't do so just yet I've managed to find one or two odd tracks here and there on P2P and by purchasing the occaisional tune from a compilation album. "The Big Strip" by Cy Payne is another great tune, and its used in the opening and closing routines on the video "Mary Millington's World Striptease Extravaganza". I also used to own the video "The Great British Striptease" (A.K.A. "An Unbelievably Dirty Evening With Bernard Manning"). This has some great tunes as well as some rearrangements of the classics. I've copied some of the better ones onto my PC. Greenman is correct in that I am very sprcific in my tastes. My idea of classic stripping is propoer "gown & glove" routines (as I beileve they are known). HOwever a lot of retro striptease videos include belly dance and go-go. Also, the actual cheesecake and burlesque routines from the 40's and 50's are usually far too tame and uncoreographed to qualify as an act of any sort (ni my opinion). I once bought four videos from Something Weird and was highly dissappointed with them. There was once a site whose name escapes me for the moment. Striporame.co.uk or some such. Anyway, it was designed to promote striptease from the UK but also reported on striptease-related news from all over the world. I e-mailled the webmaster to enquire why it was that whenever someone wants to conjour up the architypa image of a stripper they almost always use gown & glove style of dress, and music such as "The Stripper" by David Rose, and yet when one comes to look for footage of actual performances of this ilk from yesteryear there are pracically none to be found? His answer was that (proably) the gown & glove style of clothing is a throwback to the days of Gypsy Rose Lee when the acts themselves were much more tame and the music usually more mainstream dancehall waltz and the like, but the more raunchy music comes from a later age when styes had moved on. Also, he ventured that gown & glove was too cumbersome a style to strip out of in the time afforded by the tunes. Thus both the most recognisabe styles of clothing and music of the typical stripper were never actually used together in either historical period. That is until when the neo-burlesque movement started re-creating "classic" striptease. The irony is that they appear to be re-creating routines that by and large never happened! |
