There used to be a shop next to a community farm (set up to give the inner city youth a taste of rural life) which was supposed to be a Joke Shop but mainly sold old mags. Anytime you went in it was full of kids trying to get a look at the pages even though the covers were taped together.

There's a seller on ebay called Tilleys Vintage Magazines. I don't know it it's the same people, or whether someone else is using their name. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/till...tage.magazines |

There's Speedy Books on Hylton Rd in Sunderland, where all the 2nd-hand shops are - the whole street used to be a mecca of pre-owned grot; you could find some corking stuff in mint condition along there sometimes. Not so much now - only Speedy is really still going, and even then it's been scaled RIGHT back; nowhere near as much stuff out.

Manchester used to have many of these type of shops even up to a few years ago.
You could get a good stash of Parade. Seaside towns like Morecambe were another hotspot. |

I remember in Liverpool there was one at the bottom of Brunswick Road close to the city centre.
The front was like a second hand paperback shop - in which i never saw anybody looking - whilst the back had the finest collection of Lovebirds, Whitehouse etc that i have ever seen. Bought the very first National News in there as well as Whitehouse around issues 6 & 7. Wish i'd have kept them! Shop was fronted by an old chap who was very discreet and after a while when he got to know you he always tried to strike up a conversation - very difficult for me at the time as i was only 15!! I wonder if he ever thought why i only went in the there when it was dark outside!! Anyway no sign of the shop now due to a road widening scheme. Great Days and it taught me a lot. |

There was a great shop in Bridgwater, Somerset that sold tons of second hand books and had a back section full of old porn mags. I remember stumbling across this Aladin's cave six years ago and rubbing my eyes in disbelief as I found stacks of Men Only's and Mayfairs. I found several magazines containing photoshoots of my favourite models and also, in the regular books section, a copy of Marshal Law: Fear and Loathing (I'm a big comic book fan). Bloody brilliant day! If anyone is thinking of dropping into Bridgwater the shop in question is straight down from the train station. Come to think of it, it's tempting for me to drop back there just to see if the shop is still going...

The Vintage magazine co in camden used to have a huge selection of top sheld mags. The camden site was more a warehouse, but did let you in to browse (and buy).
They had a shop just around the corner from Windmill street as well i think, but this dealt mostly with film memorabilia. It's been a few years since i went down there, but a quick search reveals they are still going (and still selling the stuff that interests us most) here is a link to their site. http://www.vinmag.com/online/gbu0-di...zine-list.html Goiod hunting |
