How to prevent file deletion by an ex-filehost worker
by BlueShinobi
posted recently on Planet suzy I used to script for a now defunct file host, but I know how the system for file deletion works, and there are a number of misunderstandings about it. One thing to understand, nothing prevents a DMCA takedown. Does not matter what you do, you get a DMCA, the file is gone. This is to prevent other forms of deletion. Filename The most common method of automatic deletion is a simple string search in the system. Most file hosts have a very large number of titles they periodically search for and delete upon match. The file is not reviewed by a person. It is deleted solely on it's name. Let's say you upload a rar of your vacation photos. And you name it "Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.rar". It will be deleted the next time the system scans for the Transformers movie. It does not matter that it's your vacation photos, not a movie. The string matches and that's all the system checks for. Adding underscores _ and dashes - ~ do not prevent deletion. All file hosts ignore non alphabetical characters and numbers. If you wish to preserve a file name, you must compress it leaving the media file with it's full name. Then abbreviate the compressed file. Make sure your abbreviation drops about half of the letters from every word. Let's go back to your vacation photos. "Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.rar"->Will be deleted "TransformersRevengeFallen.rar"->Will be deleted "Transformers_--_Revenge__of__the_Fallen.rar"->Will be deleted "Transformers_--_Revenge__of__the_Fallen_by_Misty.rar"->Will be deleted "TransformRevengotheFall.rar"->Will likely be deleted "TrnsfmsRvngFaln.rar"->Will not be deleted by a string search MD5 matches. Anytime you upload a file, I suggest you rar it with some small random text file. This will evade MD5 checksums. An MD5 checksum is like a file fingerprint. It's unique to a file and only an exact duplicate matches. If a file was deleted once, reupping it can get it deleted again thanks to an MD5 match. Furthermore, your upload may be at the whims of another poster's links. You could both upload the same file and because his link is deleted, so is yours(because the MD5 matches). Password protection This is a common myth. Password protecting files does not prevent deletion under any circumstance. No one opens the files by hand, it's all automated. If a copyright complaint is sent by the owner of material, the file they request to be deleted is deleted without review. This is the same on all sites. No one checks your file to make sure it's what the complaint says it is. |

Last filehost offering free premium access for uploading and downloading?
Its all a bit sad
Toucan was almost the last filehost that was offering a free upgrade to premium access Heres the kicker which will surprise a few folks One other filehost offers premium access to free users and its not who you would expect Unlike toucan which required 6000 downloads to get a months free access this one starts giving access with as little as 5 downloads of your uploads though because its limited to only free users and manual downloads its in effect quite a bit harder to get the 2week & 1 month access. For your uploads downloaded by FREE USERS U points 5 free users downloading your uploads = 2 hours premium access 15 free users downloading your uploads = 6 hours premium access 200 free users downloading your uploads = 24 hours premium access 1000 free users downloading your uploads = 2 weeks premium access 5000 free users downloading your uploads = 1 months premium access For every download you do MANUALLY (no auto file manager downloads count) D points 100 downloads = 1 weeks premium access 170 downloads = 2 weeks premium access 300 downloads = 1 months premium access This is where all the free premium keys being given away on our sister forum planet suzy come from The filehost is Depositfiles - yes their still paying cash rewards but surprisingly their no longer advertising this on the front of their site...its buried right down the bottom of the loyalty page and no mention of CASH to be seen on that page Anonym zu depositfiles.com/loyalty.html In their FAQ they claim you can download 250 files at once on their premium Hard to believe but I'd guess its limited by the speed of your own connection Use it as a mirror site to back up your premium links Files uploaded are good for 90 days till deleted My experience is downloading never goes beyond 150k on an 8mb cable line Uploading between 80-100k but I'm sure this will vary from region to region Got to be better than joining the millions who are running filefactory & rapidgator into the ground and locking out many due to the bandwidth being used up too quickly due to an over supply of links. Bottom line...15 downloads from a few mirror uploads by free users will get you 6 hours premium access with the ability to download up to your connections limitations up to a maximum of 250 files at once. Something for nothing in my book Last edited by buttsie; August 1st, 2012 at 10:57 AM.. Reason: amending comment |

Rapidshare uploads under 30mb
This might not effect many files but I think its worth re-mentioning that though
rapidshare have nobbled free user downloads which appear as downloads that freeze intermittently but show a higher download speed resulting in the overall speed being 30KB. That doesnt apply to files smaller than 30mbs They get full premium speeds 400-600Kb in my experience of recent times which makes the over stressed cash hosts who drift between 20kb-150kb look very ill I can testify some of my 34 rapidshare files from an old account daring from late 2007/early 2008 that I havent accessed for years are still alive today - not many of them - but i assume lack of downloads gets many deleted through natural attrition. Case in point March 2008 still alive - of course being on the first page of a famous model like Laetitia Casta means its being kept active is almost a given http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...laetitia+casta Last edited by buttsie; September 8th, 2012 at 09:39 PM.. |

i'm one of the ones who used Toucanshare and its too bad they're gone. Cheap premium account and good for free users as well. At least we had a few weeks notice and I had time to transfer my video files.... I have no intention of using Rapidgator (probably better called Rapidlater) This from their company: "Dear customer, Free users can download 3 files per day and maximum two per one hour. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience." Think thats the worst I've ever seen for a 'free user'.

Mediafire changing terms for free users
Significantly
Unlimited access to your uploads replaced by 15 one-time downloads per day (amended one more time to 10 per week for certain files but 1 link files with no passwords or encryption are unlimited) Unlimited storage space is replaced with a 50GB Limit Given they allow simultaneous downloads its easy to see popular files will be inaccessible for large chunks of a day pretty quickly Only solution upgrade or pick another host Last edited by buttsie; January 30th, 2013 at 10:39 AM..
