It hit me this morning that I've attended many estate auctions over time, yet never have I seen a table of porn. Tables of small appliances, tables of Christmas goods, tables of chinaware, glassware, silverware, costume jewelry, and such & such, sure, at every auction, but never a table of smut.
Are any members also auctioneers? I'd be interested to hear professional experiences of what happens to the stash. Executors are supposed to get maximum dollar on behalf of the estate. I can't imagine tossing valuable pornography into the trash. |

“Lot Sixty-Seven, thirty-two cartons of pornography.” – Auctioneer
“Ten cents.” – Jasper “Twelve!” – Phone Bidder “Twelve cents to our phone bidder in Japan! Any advance?” – Auctioneer “Oh, all I brought is a dime. I didn’t know there’d be pornography.” – Jasper “Sold for twelve cents!” – Auctioneer “Oh, my beloved pornography!” – Krusty the Klown The Simpsons,Bart The Fink

I doubt the relatives want to advertise that their late beloved was a porn collector by selling his naughty goods at auction.

It's not much of an issue since I have no partner nor kids; my brother would likely be the poor sod clearing out my place and he knows about some of my tastes anyway. As I would be dead, I'd be past caring
But since the question has been asked, mine is probably considered tame by VEF standards; mostly softcore; only some that could even remotely be described as hard, and nothing illegal. It's all on a USB stick encrypted with a 20 character complex password and fairly obscure encryption method that most PCs would see as an unformatted or corrupted disk; so unless that nice Mr Putin or somebody like him discovers it (yeah, right), it dies with me I have a few "toys" for solo use, but my brother would likely just chuck them in a dumpster anyway. |

Like others, i ditched my porn when I got married - well, most of it, anyway. Which meant I have had to since replace it via ebay. My wife, does sometimes have a little dig about what 'they' will find when they have to clear the house.
Given the prices that some magazines are getting on ebay, I may sell it once I am old enough to have lost interest. That just leaves all the DVDs and Hard Drives full of classic era porn and pictures! |

protecting porn files.....
I haven't read all of the postings, however, best protection from unwanted viewing of your collection, what ever may be in it, is to simply down load it to a brand new external hard drive that has an encryption provision, with a password in excess of 20 alpha characters. numbers, special characters etc. Something you can remember without writing it down anywhere.
External HDs can hold up to 10 terabytes or more of storage and are worth the price and they are usually very reliable. If you pass on, nobody (except CIA, NSA or FBi or such) would be able to easily break the password, even with today's decryption programs. Not worth the time, expense or effort, so your files will probably be tossed in the trash when they clean up your effects. traveler |

I'm actually cutting down the size of my stash a lot. Like above said, you can store it encrypted. Even if the drive doesn't come with a tool, you can just use bitlocker or something.

If you search on sites like Invaluable or 1stdibs, which allow you to search across dozens of auction houses, you'll find a fair amount of erotica. Usually what seems to happen with pornography is that if its worth enough, whoever's handling the estate will stick it in some larger auction aggregating multiple estates, without indicating the provenance. No one's family usually wants their departed Dad to be remembered by "Several cartons of Hustler, some pages stuck together", nor does Mom want Dad's Tracey L VHS tapes being sold at a garage sale. Back in the day, there were quite a few adult book stores that would give you some cash or credit for adult mags in good condition, today no one's going to bother much with material that's got little value. |
