Actually Danjaq has finally acquired the rights to both the David Niven Casino Royale and NSNA (any time there's a Bond marathon here in the States, NSNA is often included). I agree that NSNA is a much better film than Octopussy, and not just because Connery is still so much fun to watch (though he doesn't have particularly fond memories of the actual filming), and while both the American TV adaption and the spoof of Casino Royale should be considered in any objective history of the series, they are both still so uneven, and so far outside the popular series formula (though in both cases the actual chemin de fer game is a high point...Peter Lorre is a magnificently creepy Le Chiffre, and the interplay between Orson Welles and Peter Sellers is excellent) that it doesn't surprise me that most fans would prefer to ignore them. Thanks for your reasoned comments and information.

IN a recent Q.I. (which for foreign readers is a television quiz-cum-fact show hosted by Stephen Fry which finds amazing things and debunks a lot of myths too) it was stated that Ian Fleming, the writer of the Bond books made up the myth about you should leave a small amount of skin bare when painting yourself in coloured paint-the skin doesn't breath therefore it is safe to paint yourself all over apparently-lets face it if that weren't the case then no one would facepaint or otherwise.

But as to the specific issue of completely covering the skin, it does carry a significant risk. The skin is primarily responsible for protecting and regulating temperature for our bodies. By sealing the pores, the skin is robbed of the ability to do that, and fairly rapidly it would get extremely hot. When this happens, it inhibits the functioning of the body's enzymes which are responsible for the molecular reactions that make it possible for the body to use the oxygen that the lungs are providing. Result: death. Not technically suffocation, although the net effect would be much the same. (paraphrased from the MedSci Network)

One comment I have to make regarding those calling themselves Bond fans. There are two types, the book and the movie fans. Due to legalities and restrictions put on by Fleming, the movies could only use the titles and very loose storylines, hence the movies are nothing like the books. For true Bond fans Roger Moore was a buffoon and those so called movies he was in are worse than nothing at all. Now with the upsurge and return to the original Bond character Casino Royale and its sequel Quantum of Solace hopefully will pave the way for those movies to be done properly. |

Yeah, but being a young pup during the early seventies, I thought he was a god slapping Goodnight on the butt to switch places with the other babe..
