Although I would have put Lugosi and Lee and Max Schrek ahead of James Marsters, who played a major part in Buffy's success, a lot depends on the age range of those who voted. It's still nice to see the classics are still there though and Willem Dafoe was great in Shadow of the Vampire.
It's also good to see Salem's lot there as well as it was a truly superb and memorable TV show. |

No Frank Langella either - which my g/f says is the best.
He always seems to get overlooked. Far too many Buffy types - I'd have added Grandpa Munster as well. D'Oh!! Saw Langella at 40 right after I posted. All the Buffy vamps had me blinded... ;-)

Grandpa Munster (Al Lewis)

For me - my top 5 TV/movie Vampires would be:
5th: Wesley Snipes as Blade. 4th: David Boreanaz as Angel / Angelus. 3rd: Bela Lugosi - Dracula 2nd: Max Schrek - Count Orlok (Nosferatu 1922) 1st: Christopher Lee - Count Dracula As for top 5 Vampiress, I would put the following ahead of the "Buffyverse" contingent: 5th: Madeleine Collinson as Frieda Gellhorn (Twins of Evil 1971) 4th: Barbara Shelley as Helen Kent (Dracula: Prince of Darkness 1966) 3rd: Kim Cattrall as Ulrike (Modern Vampires, aka Revenant 1998). 2nd: Salma Hayek as Santanico Pandemonium (From Dusk Till Dawn 1996). 1st: Ingrid Pitt as Marcilla / Carmilla / Mircalla Karnstein (The Vampire Lovers 1970).

I can't believe nobody mentions KLAUS KINSKI. He did a terrific NOSFERATU in Herzog's remake of the classic silent movie. Blackula was algo good, I got both fils on DVD.
Instead of so many young vampires, I prefer the good old John Carradine. He was pure fun as an aging vampire in several low budget films. |

On a more serious note
Louis Jourdan played Dracula as if being immortal was at best a melancholy affair. There is an early scene where Jonathan Harker looks out of his window only to see a very sad looking Count climbing the walls with an arm motion that very much resembled a bat's wings slowly flapping. Very effective.
Also, the scene where Dracula was stealing babies to feed his 'brides' was genuinely horrific. |
