I read a New York Post article about Chris Hardwick's fall from grace being an example of the Me Too movement going way too far, which is hard to disagree with, as soon as Chloe Dykstra spoke up, he was scrubbed from every single entertainment gig he had, which were several. No due process, nothing. Anyways, the article taught me a new word, "cudgel," meaning a short heavy stick, a club. That just sounds a bit exotic or something.

Oh and review site tampering is a dangerous thing. Apparently some shady manipulating was done to make Gotti's Rottentomatoes audience score higher than it should be, with a surprising amount of user-submitted reviews. Then the social media of that movie using that to sell the film, it's dirty. It's funny because last night, I noticed my great grandma watching TV and a little interview was conducted with Travolta and Kelly Preston. Spanish TV by the way, so they're talking about John Gotti, his wife Victoria, all this actor craft stuff, Preston meeting with Victoria and she apparently gave her a ring, I think her wedding ring. I just stood there, getting my coffee ready, and thought that watching just that interview, you'd have a double take if you were told that it got a 0% critical score on Rottentomatoes.

All that reinforces the need to just watch a product and not rely on reviews too much. Music's a bit different for me, listening to metal and trusting the opinions of certain reviewers on metal-archives, 9 times out of 10, if they like an album, I'll like it. Movies, I don't read critic reviews, short blurbs, sure, same with user-submitted ones on IMDB and RT.

So I read that controversy on Reddit, and a funny post was made about how Disney will learn this trick and make it so when Solo comes out on blu-ray, it will suddenly get a boost in positive user-submitted reviews. A funny example of this manipulation is actually from The Room. Really early on during the first few months following its world premiere (June 27 2003, 15 years coming up), there were some random, overly positive reviews on IMDB. It's become something to laugh at, Tommy Wiseau made those reviews, really simple, dumb ones that praised the movie, his "genius" all that stuff. Turns out it can be done on a higher level with this Gotti movie. Disappointing, I saw the trailer and thought it could be good, but ah well.

According to this list on Wikipedia, Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise, at $59.1 billion, number 2 is, unsurprisingly, Star Wars, but at just $42.9 billion. So basically, Pokemon slays, suck it Star Wars! You can see a detailed breakdown here.

What Have You Learned Today ?

When I woke up this morning I learned it's not a real good idea getting into a drinking competition with 20 year old males

The Jerry Springer Show got quietly cancelled this week, which I didn't pick up on until now. It seems like NBC Universal pulled the plug, but I can't find if Springer himself wanted out or not, something really swept under the rock, which is weird for such a show like this. While I haven't watched a new episode in years (not watching TV anymore being the main reason), it is a bummer to know about this. I enjoyed the show, it's stupid and sometimes outrageous, staged, but similar to my former fascination with pro wrestling, those aspects just grabbed me.

There are Springer episodes on Youtube, so I can always check those out, the news reminds me that I should do that more often.

I learned it's not a good idea to have twenty year old mates. They're thinking...'why are we hanging out with this old fart?', and you're thinking...'was I ever actually this fcuking stupid!'

(From what annoys you most?)

Shithead young adults who are less than half your age and think they know more about life than their elders could have belted a few last night and would have if I didn't know their parents

20 years old - alcohol - male testosterone - I can handle that but throw in - social media generation values and my patience wears real thin

I guess you lost the drinking competition?
