Bloodshot - Cherie Priest
Raylene Pendle is not only a professional thief but a vampire as well. Another vampire hires her to steal some documents relating to experiments the government performed on his unwilling self. Halfway through the book and liking it better than I thought, especially since it's first person narrative, which I usually dislike. Bringin Down The House - some guy I can't remember offhand MIT students form a card-counting team and kick ass at blackjack. Pretty interestiing so far. |

Pygmy - Chuck Palahniuk (who wrote fight club)
Difficult book to start with but once into it absolutely hilarious. It features a mad Chinese agent/terrorists view of American high school life. It is described as 'the Manchurian Candidate meets South Park' and has the same barnpot ideologies as Doctor Strangelove. I would absolutely recommend it as having lots of clever off the wall humour (similar to a Tom Sharpe) with a very, very adult taste. Not recommended for high school students (even though it is in the main about them and their madder parents!). |

Palahniuk is "very Portland" (Oregon) -- he has the spirit of his hometown. He has a very funny guide to Portland that gives a good sense of just how his distinctive literary style emerged.
Its called "Fugitives and Refugees" and its short and well worth reading for anyone who likes Palahniuk. |

Finished it recently. Definitely lives up to the hype.
I'll certainly be reading the other 2 books in the trilogy.

Burma 1942 by Alan Warren. It tells the story of the Japanese invasion of Burma in January of that year & Britain's subsequent defeat in that campaign.

I have added Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" to my active reading list. I am also reading "Salt" and "Sailing from Byzantium: How a Lost Empire Shaped the World."
