Oh, thanks for taking time to reply to this thread Let me be a little more bunt, if I may Umm, A few of the posters on here, this thread I mean, palo, brecht will know more than half the reason I started it was purely for a friendly stirring session ... They also know I despise MS I also like to create discussion within this entire site ...... I take nothing seriously I do love my Mac, when I first bought one I was very open to my thoughts about it and went looking for ways to break it .... I couldn't, that's when I started liking it, I wasn't sucked in by any hype. So, when it comes to replies like yours in this thread that seem rude .... I ain't worried either

I have absolutely no experience with Apple. But I believe you pay for certain things you usually get for free (regular updates etc.) if you use their products. So, Apple is like voluntarily paying for the free air you breathe, or buying bottled water.
It's the brave new world of the homo corporaticus. |

The clickwheel system is pretty good as well. I don't like mobile phones personally. And i'm not a fan of streaming either, i like to 'have' my music, even if it's only digitally. Quote:
But you should turn off all of the automated crap and uninstall the Bonjour service. |

I've been using a MacBook Pro for 8 years now and it is still working great.Boot up times are about a minute and it's not much slower than when it was new.I have had very few issues, none which I wasn't able to solve myself.I have heard lots of people call Macs over priced pieces of shit.Over priced is debatable, but pieces of shit they are not.How many pc users can say they have gotten 8 years out of a pc?Also I can still use it problem free with 8 apps running while listening to music or watching a movie.Just my two cents.

As opposed to Windows, and I don't know if they still do this, but they used to release their software before it was finished. That's what all those 'Update 2 of 20, please do not unplug your machine' things were all about. The tech who talked to me about it described it as being like "Selling someone a car, and then saying 'Ok, we'll send you the seats in a few months'". |

You don't pay for updates, fact is when you do buy a Mac just about everything you would need is already on there, iMovie and iPhoto which are basic editors Keynote, Pages and numbers which are the equivalent of Word, Power Point and Excell Mail, which is err, email iTunes Maps Messages, which is IM and kind if crappy Dictionary Calendar , which is great Quicktime player DVD player among all that are some minor gimmicks. So it will pretty much everything right out of the box, Apple don't install an optical drive anymore, though I did buy their own plug in one and works fine. Fact is most other manufactures plug in or bluetooth hardware will work with Mac's. As for paying for things, the on line Apple store has thousands of little gimmick things you can pay for or free. I have bought a better movie and photo editor, A units converter for imperial to metric and so on tool, A system cleaner, A screen shot grabber, A meme creator so I can act stupid on here, A slide show maker. None of those are Apple products but sold through Apple, they all work great as they are higher end products. As mentioned I did buy MS Office for Mac and also run Norton security, The only thing I did buy that Apple won't sell and can't buy in a store is a DVD ripper that bypasses copyright protection Aimersoft is the brand and will do more than just rip DVD's, it's also a format converter for video and audio. A button, no, but it does scroll , just run your finger lightly over the body of the mouse in the direction you want to go, that includes left and right also. My actual first PC was my best one, went for about 4 years, a Packard Bell, had the old CRT screen with speakers mounted and clicked into the sides, Win 98 I think and unlike Mac haters I admit when something is good and that was a great machine, but every other PC I had after that was OK at the start until some months later the little things show up. My personal favourite was a Toshiba lap top , blue screen of death 2 months after owning it Made a great frisbee in the end What's the Apple equivalent of the blue screen of death look like anyway I wouldn't have a clue as I've never seen one or for that matter heard of one You Sir, have obviously bought and enjoyed a quality product

And then there's the countless patches for the holes on the seats

I can say that, and millions of others too. But if you use a machine every day, it'd be rare to keep one as old as that as the main workhorse for so long. The reason is that it needs to run software that others use, and sooner or later it either becomes to slow or lacks the appropriate hardware to run modern applications. Technology moves fast
Of course, money is a constraint for many, if not most. It is for me too. I try to get a new machine every 3-4 years. Power-users probably want one every 2 years. In this respect, PC-users definitely have the edge over Apple-friends, because Apple is so unnecessarily expensive |
