The Jimmy Saville scandal has thrown up some surprising names ..... one of them was Nicola Critcher (aka Nikki Critcher). Her family moved to Somerset when she was aged 16, and as a budding starlet, she was upset that she had to give up drama school in London. Aged 17 she went back to London, and started pursuing a career on the beauty circuit (1978 Carnival Queen title), and a modelling career which included UK newspaper Page 3 modelling (topless shots in the UK's red top newspapers) .... she was living the models dream at the time.

"I did it more for the social life than anything. The other girls and I were out every night. Even on Sundays we would all decamp from Stringfellows to a club in Chelsea that was open until really late. The idea of not going out was abhorrent."

Her drama training led to directors offering her work and she had started in movies with the part of 'Lucy' in the 1971 shock slasher movie 'Revenge' (aka 'Terror From Under The House'), and this led to a spell as the hostess of TV's 'Who's Baby?' in 1973. She then disappeared from TV only to have another burst of work between 1981 and 1984 which included appearances in 1981 in 'The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy' and in 1983 in 'The Benny Hill Show' and 'Black Adder'. When all the modelling and the TV work ended she trained to be a lawyer. She now apparently owns a second-hand clothes and groceries shop in the village in Somerset where she lives.

She was mentioned in connection to the Saville case in November 2012 in The Sun newspaper (and when she came under my Sauron like eye), when Ms Critcher was interviewed after the newspaper found out that Saville had been named and investigated in the 1980's, when the Peter Sutcliffe (Yorkshire Ripper) case was still ongoing. She was friends at the time with Harley Street dentist Dr Mace Joffe around 1980, and he had told her that he had to go up to Leeds and take a cast of Jimmy Savile’s teeth.

“He said he had been told by the police that Savile was known to them for using prostitutes and that he had been a potential suspect”. They wanted to see if his teeth matched the bite marks on Ripper victims.

Her Beauty Queen career hit the national press when she lost her 1978 Carnival Queen title in Staines, Middlesex, after it emerged that she had stripped nude for a number of mens periodicals such as 'Knave' and 'Fiesta'. As we all know this is an absolute 'No No' in the pageant world (all though topless is occasionally allowed). These pictures came to light while she was actually at her Carnival Dance with the Mayor after getting the title. She reacted badly to the news she was being stripped of the title, reportedly she tipped her drink over one of the carnival organisers, which probably helped the story make the press.

Džejla Glavović was born in Bosnia-Herzegovina and became a model. In 2002 She was the first Bosnian woman to win a major international title in beauty contest. She had won the Miss Earth 2002 contest which was held in Quezon City, Philippines on October. Cue much pride in this small Muslim dominated country, but that's had such a turbulent recent past.

As far as I can tell, she's still working as a model, and apparently going out with very big balkan men

However, on May 28, 2003, the Miss Earth Foundation officially dethroned her "due to her failure to comply with the stipulations in her contract." i.e. She wasn't turning up for the organised events. First runner-up from Kenya, Winfred Omwakwe, took over the position.

I was kind of surprised that I had forgotten about this girl .... considering the headlines she generated, and also the fact that she has no thread. Ah well such is the nature of the 'fame' that some these girls enjoy. Just tomorrows chip paper wrapping in many cases.

Anyways, she is a French born lingerie model from a humble background, where her family ran a small 'fashion boutique', in Bandol, a seaside resort in Provence on France's south coast. She was an only child, but with the boutique business struggling and her parents marriage apparently marred by constant rows over money, her parents split up, and Mrs Perroncel moved to Paris with Vanessa. Her father had another daughter with another woman, but when he was in his early fifties, and allegedly in debt, he took his own life.

After her father's funeral she decided to leave France and move to England because she wanted a better life and modelling opportunities. She rented a room for around £500 a month - and travelled everywhere by bus seeking jobs. Although never short of work, it was not particularly well paid and she struggled to meet her bills. And so to the exclusive Elysium nightclub in London's Soho where she got a job, first on the door, then as a 'VIP hostess' ..... where she met footballers in the clubs VIP lounge, where up to £15,000 a night was often spent on Cristal champagne. The pay was only about £150 a week, but the hostesses could earn large amounts in 'tips' from the VIP's.

However it was for her later life and the revelations that then came to light that she came to the worlds notice:

She first came to our attention during the World Cup in Germany, in 2006, when she was part of the infamous *W.A.G. invasion of the boutiques of Baden Baden. She was at the time pregnant with one of the England footballers children, but little did we all know what revelations time and her libido would unveil. She lived in a Surrey mansion and drove a Range Rover (in what apparently after 40 years of women's liberation, is still the dream for the majority of young women in the UK - most of whom end up on this thread).

She has apparently had a series of 'relationships' with various 'B' list 'celebrities' -

• She had a two-year relationship with Lee Latchford Evans, the former Steps singing star, which ended in 2002.
  
• At the Elysium that she was introduced to footballer Wayne Bridge, her future 'fiance', and the father of their son with whom she started a relationship around 2005.
  
• Reportedly, in all she met and had relationships with five and possibly more Chelsea footballers - some of whom have been named, and some of whom are still speculation only. For this reason I won't name any of them (and as legal letters are such unpleasant reading), but the links are to a mainstream newspaper with full reports etc - of course famously she also was alleged to have had an affair with Bridge's best friend - the England and Chelsea captain (his wife was also her best friend and coffee morning partner).

The press frenzy may have been over the top, and some of the names, or the nature of the relationships exaggerated .... its difficult to get hard facts as Ms Perroncel denied some of the stories, and obtained public apologies from some news outlets ..... nonetheless for a few months this ladies private life was the subject of discussion on the front and back pages of newspapers around the world.

'A' list or not 'A' list is a question that occasionally comes up on this thread. In general I suspect that most people accept who I choose to keep off the thread e.g. actresses like Jodie Foster (obvious), or media personalities like Paris Hilton (not obvious on talent, but for the moment, the worlds media react to stories about her as they would a genuine 'A' lister - see Google results). Recently actress Reese Witherspoon did a silly thing, but sadly for me, Ms Witherspoon counts as major 'A list': Oscars, Hollywood's highest paid female film star 2002 until 2010, .... major films and roles, yah de yah de yah, and although she's minor in my world view I posted on her thread.

But Mischa Barton is another matter, and although a popular girl, many like me would be hard put to actually put a name to anything she has done. So is she 'A' list or not? Well in 2007 she was a 'star' of the ill fated 'St Trinian's' remake, and was cast in the 'international film' produced by the Russian band t.A.T.u., called 'You and I', and now does 'horror' straight to DVD's. .... in fact the only movie I recognised was "Notting Hill", made when she was a juvenile, I rest my case.

She was born in Hammersmith, London, but her father's work took the family to New York City when Barton was six years old and she is now a dual national. She began acting at the age of eight in an Off-Broadway production of the play, Slavs! in 1994, and had a number of juvenile roles in the theatre. 1997 saw her mainstream film debut in 'Lawn Dogs', and again she had a string of child/teen roles (including 'Notting Hill'). After she graduated from the 'Professional Children's School' in Manhattan in 2004, she took a summer short course called 'Acting Shakespeare' at 'The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art' in London, in 2006.

Her fame in the US is based upon a teen role in the cult TV show in 2003, 'The O.C.', and not to be unkind, her career output since has been at best, mixed, with many projects ending up like the film 'Homecoming', which received a limited release in July 2009, or the TV series 'The Beautiful Life' which was cancelled on 25 September 2009 after televising just 2 episodes. She has been in a number of 'horror' movies (always a sign of something), and even a Jason Statham vehicle (which is definitely a sign of something!!). She is scheduled to begin filming in the 'independent' drama, 'Fast Life' in Los Angeles in summer 2013.

Off screen, she has been far more successful, with a large portfolio of modelling assignments including Calvin Klein, and in July 2008, she created a 14 piece handbag collection for online retailer, ASOS.com. In March 2012 she debuted a new line of clothing, accessories, cosmetics, and bath products on the Internet called Mischa's Place. Its maybe fair to say that she is perhaps better celebrated for these activities than the acting.

As you might have guessed, she has had one or two moments where there have been ....

In December 2007, she was stopped by the police during the early morning hours while driving in West Hollywood, California. The police believed that they had cause when she was observed 'straddling the lanes and failing to signal for a turn'. After the Police stopped her, they discovered that she 'was an unlicensed driver and was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage'.

She was detained and taken to the West Hollywood Sheriff Station, and later released on US $10,000 bail. Subsequently she was charged with two misdemeanors: driving without a valid license; and a DUI offence. Reports at the time said that she was alleged to have also had a small amount of of marijuana, but they didn't bother to charge her with an offence. She was sentenced on April 10, 2008 to three years of unsupervised probation for the DUI offence.

Other issues - She was sued by her New York landlord for refusing to pay three months of the $7,000 (£4,000) per month rent on her apartment. This was after the cancellation of her TV series 'The Beautiful Life', when she apparently left town and forgot to sign the cheques Oops.

In April 2011 it was reported that she was ordered by a court to pay a private nursing company (who apparently supplied her with 'sober coaches'), more than $95k for services rendered back in 2009. She ran up a bill for $89,930.57 and never paid up, and then, when she failed to attend court on the matter, the judge signed off on a default judgment in favor of the nursing company.

In July 2009, she was also sectioned to secure psychiatric supervision for two weeks, under a 5150 committal, that allows a psychiatrist to involuntarily confine a person deemed to have a mental disorder that makes them a danger to themselves and others. She later said that this was due to a dental visit, when they tried to inject her with pain killers, and her fear of needles led to her getting 'into a fight with the nurses'.

There has also been much press and web comment about her fluctuating weight and appearance .... she has denied that there are any issues.

Margot Fonteyn (b. Margaret Evelyn Hookham) was born in in Reigate, Surrey, England. Her mother was half Brazilian with the surname Fontes. When she was aged four she was signed up to ballet classes, and at age eight she travelled to China with her parents when her father went for work reasons. She lived in Tientsin and then in Shanghai, where she studied dancing under Russian émigré teacher George Goncharov. She then returned to London aged 14 to pursue a ballet career, and joined the Vic-Wells Ballet School. Early in her career she transformed the 'Fontes' of her mothers maiden surname into Fonteyn (a surname her brother Felix, a dancer, also chose to adopt), and and Margaret into Margot, to arrive at her stage name.

By 1939, Fonteyn she was performing principal roles and was most noted in the ballets of Sir Frederick Ashton, including 'Ondine', 'Daphnis and Chloe', and 'Sylvia'. But she was especially renowned for her portrayal of 'Aurora' in Tchaikovsky's T'he Sleeping Beauty'. By 1949 she was a world ballet star after a tour in the US where she was partnered by Australian Robert Helpmann, and then Michael Somes (her favourite dance partner - he married another Dame Ballerina, Antoinette Sibley).

Just when she was thought ready to retire in 1962, she was partnered with Rudolf Nureyev in 'Giselle'. She was 42 and he was 24 and during the curtain calls Nureyev dropped to his knees and kissed Fonteyn's hand. Her career was reinvigorated, and they had an on-and-offstage partnership that lasted until her final retirement in 1979. They remained in close touch until her death, and he paid for her medical treatment when she was diagnosed with the cancer that took her life. Fonteyn was awarded a DBE (made a Dame, the UK's highest honour) in 1956 at the age of 37. She died on 21 February 1991 in a hospital in Panama City, Panama, and was she was buried in the Arias family plot in Panama beside her husband.

She and Nureyev remained lifelong friends and were long rumoured to have been lovers for a period, he (bi-sexual) claimed it, she (married) denied it, but her biographer Meredith Daneman agreed with Nureyev.

In 1955, Fonteyn married Dr. Roberto Arias, a Panamanian diplomat in London. They married at the Panamanian Consulate in Paris. He was unfaithful (but as discussed so was she possibly), but the marriage was eventually stable. However he was very active in the violent and unpredictable world of Panamanian politics and when in 1959 Arias attempted a failed coup d'etat against the Panamanian government, she was arrested, but eventually released (When the British Lion still had teeth and balls ). Information released on 28 May 2010 by the British Govt (under the 50 yrs rule), confirmed that Dame Margot knew of, and at one point was involved in, the coup attempt ... she had ordered 500 Kelly-green shirts and armbands of mixed sizes from New York, for her husbands supporters to wear in the coup.

She and Arias, waited aboard their luxury yacht in the bay of Panama, and on signal they were supposed to land and collect ammunition and men to seize a major highway. But they were given away by local fishermen and forced to flee. She was arrested, and her husband went on the run. A group of students had been supposed to rise up in the capital, but gave themselves away before the agreed time, alerting the authorities. And rebels to be supplied by Cuba's Fidel Castro, and meant to land on the Atlantic coast, never arrived .... coup over.

Having apparently not learnt any lessons, her husband continued to scheme and plot and in 1964, a rival Panamanian politician shot him several times, leaving him a quadriplegic for the rest of his life - he was back in politics by 1967! After her retirement, she spent all her time in Panama nursing him.

Emma Coronel Aispuro was a beauty queen in Mexico, and that's about it, as I have to start with an oops on this one ..... partly as her background is so hazy.

She has joint U.S. / Mexican citizenship and is reportedly the daughter of the late capo Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel - or possibly Inés Coronel Barreras, a "key operative" of the Mexican Sinaloa Drugs Cartel (reports vary). Like many a young gal she fancied a bit of stardom via the Beauty Circuit, where she seems to have had some success, and in November 2006, when Emma was in the beauty contest of the 'Great Fair Coffee and Guava 2007', she met Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman (El Chapo means 'Shorty' - he is about 5ft 6 in -1.67m- tall). He was smitten, and 'helped' her win the pageant title at the local fair in the state of Durango.

He was also the two or three times married 54-year-old multi-billionaire head of Mexico's most powerful drug-trafficking gang, the Sinaloa cartel (and also a friend of her (late?) father, whom ever it is). He was on the run, six years after he had escaped from jail in a laundry basket, but was apparently in no danger of being arrested.

The couple married the day she turned 18 at a lavish wedding in the town of Canelas, Durango, in the highlands of central Mexico in 2007. Unfortunately for the young lovers (well, one young lover), the U.S. authorities had placed a $5-million bounty on Guzman's head, after alleging that he and the Sinaloa cartel, control the majority of cocaine and marijuana trafficking into the U.S. from Mexico and Colombia.

Still love will find a way, and being the third (or fourth) young wife of Mexico's most wanted drug lord has apparently not stopped her travelling back and forth to the USA, mainly as are no charges against her (apparently 'consorting' with known criminals doesn't count ). According to all reports she was free enough to cross the border and give birth to twin girls at a hospital in Lancaster in north Los Angeles County .... thus ensuring citizenship for the girls, and then returning to Mexico.

Trivia:

• Perhaps unsurprisingly the birth certificates listed Coronel as the mother of the girls, but the spaces for the father's name are blank.
• In his courtship he put on grand dance on January 6, 2007 for her, and turned up with his men wearing black ski masks and with a machine gun slung over his shoulder. With heavy caliber guns tucked in their belts.
• Guzman was listed in Forbes magazine's list of the 67 "World's Most Powerful People." At No. 41, he was just below Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei while topping Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez – No. 67 – and France's Nicolas Sarkozy – No. 56.
• Apart from Ms Coronel, the rest of his children and ex wives are all liable to arrest in the US under the kingpin act.

Suzanne Hsiao (Hsiao Shu Shen / 蕭淑慎 / Suzanne Xiao) was born in Taiwan and is a singer and actress. She entered the entertainment industry in 1997, and is noted in the Chinese world for her appearances in TV shows and local movies from the PTS 1998 soap 'Ceng Jing', through 'Yan Yu Jiang Nan' in 2001, 'Holding Hands Towards Tomorrow' in 2003, 'Love's Lone Flower' in 2005, and Sword Stained with Royal Blood' in 2005. She has also sold pop songs in the Chinese speaking world.

That's about all the usual biographical info I could glean for this lady, and its fair to say that her career has been decidedly stop start ...... however her issues were all over the Asian web pages.

In 2006, after testing positive for cocaine, she was found guilty of using drugs, and sentenced to one year and seven months in jail, and four years’ probation. She blamed the drug test results on medication she was taking to recover from cosmetic surgery. During the probation period, Hsiao was required to undergo regular drug tests to ensure she stayed clean.

She apparently (I got confused by the stories) failed her first probation in 2007, when she three times failed to turn up for community service and was returned to the jail. However she later admitted that after being released from rehabilitation for the first time in 2007, she didn't even consider kicking the drug habit.

In 2009 she was once again accused of taking drugs i.e. Amphetamines. In January of 2010 she was in Shilin District Court saying that she had only tested positive for drugs because she was taking anti-depressants. “I will let the results of scientific tests speak for themselves”, she rather bravely declared. I say bravely as the urine tests of May, June and July 2009 (part of her probation conditions), all tested positive for amphetamines. Her defence apparently rested on the assertion that she took one or two anti-depressant Ritalin pills per day from April to August 2009. The trial and appeal process was finally concluded in May 2011, She was again behind bars after being found guilty. At that time, she vowed to the public to see a "re-born Suzanne" after finishing her jail term - she spent 442 days at the Taipei Women's Detention Centre, Taiwan and was released in July 2012.

Gabriella Brum, is an Anglo/ German girl who was born after her mother met a British soldier (a Mr Edward Brum) in 1961 ... they broke up after a few years. She finished her schooling and was reportedly a student of cosmetic design. She was already on the beauty queen circuit, and was living with her older boyfriend Benno Bellenbaum, photographer, cameraman, and film producer when she entered the 1980 Miss World beauty pageant. In June 1980 she was in the International Congress Center (ICC) in Berlin and crowned Miss Germany. She then went to the Miss World finals in London, and she won the title, beating competitors from 66 other countries ..... but it was the start of the problem.

She took the title, was crowned and pictures beamed around the world but just just 18 hours later, she resigned. Initially she claimed her boyfriend disapproved of her winning and that he did not agree with the new obligations for her (which apparently didn't include plans for a mid fifties boyfriend).

Then, she claimed that she was resigning because of the pressure from the news media. ...... however it was later rumoured that she had already posed nude for her boyfriend, and that photos had been published in a magazine. The British press even suggested that she was already secretly married to Bellenbaum.

She later posed in Pl*yboy (Pl*yboy 5/1981), and modelled in Los Angeles for a few years where she apparently still resides. A year after her resignation she married Benno Bellenbaum.

• Benno Bellenbaum was ​​52, while she was 18 when she won the Miss World contest.
• Peter Joosten, was best man at the wedding.
• She was the shortest reign of a Miss World up to that time (please don't post if she wasn't or isn't .... its just trivia).
• She would have got a cash prize of $12,000 and a $36,000 contract for 12 months of traveling commercial and promotion work.
• Her stated ambition was to “design costumes for films or be in charge of the wardrobe”

In 2010 ultimatewarlord asked about Alexandria Mills .... the evidence was based upon just one report and too flimsy at that time. However she was brought to my attention by another story that added to the first makes the grade

Born in Louisville, Kentucky this young lady was a child model with a modeling portfolio even during her middle school years. She was home schooled for high school and graduated with the thought of becoming a teacher. She was already a fashion model and is listed with Elite Models agency .... However she had entered the Miss World Competition. She won the Miss World United States 2010 competition and went to the 2010 Miss World pageant held in Sanya, China.

After a number of events she became the eventual winner of Miss World 2010 on October 30, beating early bookie's red hot favorite, Mariann Birkedal of Norway, who only just finished in the top seven ....... she now resides in Bardstown, Kentucky.

Her win in the Miss World Competition was surrounded by intrigues; Firstly she had got engaged just before the competition, not strictly against the rules, but not always approved of in some areas of the beauty world.

Then there was the conspiracy theories surrounding her win .... as mentioned, the red hot favourite to win was Mariann Birkedal of Norway. Relations between China and Norway were strained after the Nobel Prize Committee decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo. Rumours circulated after the event that several judges were 'influenced' by this row, and had voted unexpectedly against Ms Birkedal ..... the UK's Daily Mail newspaper reported the rumours as being confirmed by 'insiders'. They also pointed out that Birkedal had been the shortest priced contestant in Miss World history, with some bookmakers offering odds of 6/5 - Miss USA was available at an outside price of 7/1.

Finally there were persistent reports that naked pictures of her were being touted for sale by someone, shortly after she was announced as winner. The website 'RadarOnline' authenticated one of the pictures of her in her bathroom, which she reportedly sent to a boyfriend. The pictures have not been posted on-line yet because allegedly the seller wanted too much, and there was talk of legal action ... it was said on some websites that many contestants were hoping that she would lose the Miss World crown over the nude photo scandal ... but as they never surfaced on the Internet she served out her time.

• She was second-runner-up in Miss World Top Model held on October 23 2010.

• Mills is the third woman from the USA to win Miss World since Marjorie Wallace in 1973.
