I don't remember any drive-ins showing XXX rated movies. In Alhambra, California where I grew up, only one theatre ever showed porn. It was called the EL Rey. It went through a lot of changes over the years. For awhile it showed first run movies, then it showed adult stuff. After that it went through a period where it showed nothing but G rated stuff, Disney and the like. At the time it closed down in the 80's (after an earthquake) it was a second run theatre, showing double features for 2 bucks. We had one adult bookstore in town, called El Cid's. It closed before I was old enough to go in. Hollywood was a short drive away and there were lots of adult theatres and book stores, including the famous Pussycat Theatre. I never went to the Pussycat (or any adult theatre for that matter). I did try the booths at the adult bookstores a couple of times. This was in the early 80's. With the advent of AIDS, the bookstores had to take the doors off the booths. Needless to say, this cut their usage way down.

We used to go to the XXX drive-in Fayetteville, NC when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg. Pile in the back of a pickup and bring our lawn chairs. Even convinced some chicks to come with us sometimes and get a little lucky.

Our drive inn hosted only a couple adult movies that I remember. I remember one was Flesh Gordon. Thing was the drive inn was surrounded by homes, I always wondered how they could should movies like that without complaints.
You are right about the younger generation having it easy in the porn searching. I remember feeling the rush of "forbidden" the few times I ventured to a city that did have an adult movie theater or even a couple booths in the back. Felt so naughty sometimes. Now I can surf ANYTHING at my kitchen table.
I did have a couple kinky memories from those booths or even the big screen like everyone else.
