nalor on the doom9 forum has released FindVUK, a program that is able to extract the VUK key from any Bluray supported by DVDFabPasskey (for which you can currently get a free license). I've tried it any it works ! At least for now, since I kind of expect DVDFab to close this loophole soon. In the meantime get as much keys as possible and contribute them to public database using AACS Updater mentioned in this thread before. This way, these discs will remain unlocked forever and no commercial software will ever be needed again to play them (ignoring discs with BDPlus protection for a moment). Act now since as soon as DVDFab blocks FindVUK (let's hope they won't) the party is over!
For example, here's the VUK for the Tabu Bluray of Mädchen von St Tropez which was unplayable with VLC before nalor's discovery 0x8FCC871CB87EA48FA00C7B111F3705631E007CEC = Maedchen von St Tropez | V | 0xF78185E5A26F8E37D62E5F375BAE4CC9 ; MKBrev 48 - FindVUK 0.54

FindVUK 0.62 now supports other DVDFab products such as Media Player. This works much better than Passkey which often locks the drive or crashes for me
DVDFab is giving aways free licenses for Media Player until the end of september. Get it now and start adding all your Blurays to the database!

You could try playing back a Blu-Ray on the PC or laptop and then use Replay Video Capture (by Applian) to burn the scenes you want onto a file on the HDD (it's MPG format by default). Then use an editor such as Avidemux and your preferred method of screen capping. RVC will copy anything that be played on a PC so it beats all forms of copy protection. The free version of this application allows up to 2 minutes to be copied - any longer than that and you have to pay for it it or build multiple 2-minute segments.

Aren't you kind of shooting yourself in the foot? Incidentally I was recently mulling over which Blu Ray software to buy, and settled on WinDVD by Corel. For a while I seriously considered DVDFab but now I am damn glad I didn't as it looks a lot like crackware. Even worse that that: Crackware that you pay for. I don't mind paying for software as long as the money goes to the right people, and no I don't consider paying a bunch of hackers in China "sticking it to The Man" just because the AACS consortium doesn't get a penny. 1) There are several keys involved in Bluray DRM. Some keys can be revoked, but the keys we are talking about here cannot. Once these disc specific keys are public, the corresponding discs will be playable forever using open source software such as VLC (ignoring discs with BD+ or enabling bus encryption here for simplicity) 2) Yes you should not pay for DVDFab, AnyDVD, MakeMKV, etc.. Unlike what many of their customers think, these companies are not your friend. They are producing software with slightly more options than official players, e.g. copying, but they do not provide you a permanent solution. Once the company disappears, the software will stop working as they require an internet connection to the company's server to retrieve the keys 3) DVDFab has been giving out licenses for free for their software on several occasion. Even their demo versions can be used to extract the keys. Furthermore, only 1 person with a specific disc needs a version of DVDFab to extract the key. Afterwards, EVERYONE can play the disc for free 4) Is this a perfect solution? No. VLC currently has many playback limitations which may or may not be solved in the future. However, it's better than nothing and as long as DVDFab has this loophole, as many keys as possible should be made public. So this is in fact sticking it to AnyDVD, DVDFab etc as much as to the industry

Only confused about point (1) though.
WinDVD costs about £40 and does not require an internet connection to work, only to activate. Yes, it does "recommend" that you check for updates from time to time to allow the latest titles to be played, but these updates are free and (as far as I understand it) no different to updating the firmware in a modern stand alone Blu ray player via disc or USB stick. I have not updated once since installing and have had no issues yet. If you ask me, the DRM issues are being caused by same people who are railing against it. I'm no fan of DRM as a concept, but then again it doesn't stop me doing anything I want to do with my DVD or Blu ray collection either. It is the growing army of the internet generation who believe that everything should be free and all big business is, like, evil, man who have brought this upon themselves because when initially given digital media without DRM - guess what? They couldn't be trusted with it. So if my £40 Blu-ray media solution suddenly stops working and I am forced to pay £80 for its replacement, it won't be "The Man" that I blame for it. |

Good for you that: - you are an exclusive Windows user - you don't buy import discs - you don't want to play your stuff on a media center - you don't want to make screenshots for reviews/comparison - etc This thread is obviously not for you. If WinDVD ever stops making updates and your drive revokes WinDVD's certificate because you inserted the latest movie you just bought, you might start thinking differently
