Processing name.mp4.z01 files
I recently downloaded nine (9) video files (not from VEF) that were named like this - name.mp4.z01 through name.mp4.z09.
I assumed that JDownloader would "unpack" them as it does for xxx.rar files. When it did not, I tried to do it manually using 7z. 7z loaded all the files, but when I clicked on Extract, I got a message for each of the nine files that said "Cannot open name.mp4.z01 file as archive". Is that an indication the the file is corrupted or that 7z is not able to process this type of file. Any suggestions (other than throw them in the trash) for opening this set of files and creating a video file? Thanks. |

It's one file that has been split into 9 sections (to make it easier to upload). You need to join the files together and if you can't find the explanation in here:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t35...tc-files-.html then it would best to send a PM to the original poster. Usually, such files appear as .001 and so on and can be joined with hjsplit - I'm not sure if z01 is how the file starts out or whether 7z has added a 'z' in the process. Hope this is useful. 40+

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I tried hjsplit after 7z failed. I don't think they are split files using hjsplit. The file was split using a zip file program and z7 appears to recognize the format (they load into the 7z program automatically. The program just can't seem to decompress and/or combine them. The files are definitely name.mp4.z01 through name.mp4.z09. The 7z program didn't add the z. Oh well, I'll press on. Wouldn't particularly care (small loss) except it took a long time to accomplish the download (30 minutes x 9 files = 4 -5 hours). |

FYI, 7Zip also works rar files and regular zip files and it's free.

Are you sure that this set is complete? .z01 files are usually multi-archive zip sets. Those sets include a .zip file. So I think that you are missing the .zip file. Once you have that file you can extract it with 7zip. The zip file should be (a bit) smaller than the other files. If the .z09 file is smaller than the others, try renaming that one to zip.

Jism Jim - I think you are correct. There was a zip file. I did an extract and it looked like it was going to work. It did the extraction, which it failed to do before (without that zip file) but, ahh...the big but) it gave me a message after the extraction that said the file was corrupted. Can't win for losing!
Anyway thanks for your help. It was right on! |
