Don't also forget that not all sharks are dangerous like the Whale Shark and the Basking Shark, harmless to humans and the Dogfish, a relation of the Shark. Does anyone in this country remember a comic called ACTION-around mid 80s. This was a quite a hard-hitting comic for boys and it had Three Men in a Jeep(a war story ongoing) and HOOKJAW about a shark that was basically seeking revenge and had a hook in it's jaw-hence the name-now that was pretty scary for it's time. I also never realised, until I saw a wildlife programme that sharks could jump out of the water-picture the poor seal that is suddenly launched into the air by a hungry shark coming up from underneath the water-just incredible.!
Two other shark-related cartoons I remembered. A Hanna-Barbera cartoon called 'Jabberjaw' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabberjaw which sounded like one of the Three Stooges and Misterjaw who had a friend who was a Catfish. I can't remember much about that. Hang on just found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misterjaw

Many shark attacks have been in water less than 3 feet deep! An interesting case is that of Raymond Short, who was attacked by a Great White shark in February 1966. He was in a very shallow cove when he was struck. Calling out for help a life guard came to him in the shallow water, and it was only after Short called out and said that, 'its got me', that the guard reached down in the very murky water and felt the sharks head still attached to the boys leg! It was killed and later found out to be a 8'3" Great White. The boy, who recovered, was presented with the jaws from the shark, but later gave them to the lifeguards who had helped to save him.

When I graduated from high school a good friend's family had a beach house in California. A bunch of couples including my girlfriend and me went to the beach house for a weeks vacation. My girlfriend myself, my friend and his girlfriend all arrived before everyone else. In our brilliance we decided we'd have a JAWS marathon. The next morning my friend took me into the ocean to teach me how to surf. After about an hour I was in water about chest high getting ready to get back onto the board after falling off for the hundredth time. That's when it happened something brushed against me with a decent amount of force under the water. No idea what it was could have been a shark, could have been seaweed. My friend said I looked like an old cartoon where the character stands up on top of the water and starts running in place finally getting traction and arriving on shore. It took me two days to get back in the water. To celebrate my terror here are 25 things more likely to kill you than a shark attack.

No problems mate , probably my fault for poking fun! An interesting thing with proper shark attacks, as opposed to the majority of so called 'attacks' where sharks have merely 'bumped' into people, is that to my knowledge no shark has ever attacked anyone other that the original victim. In some cases, life guards and swimmers have very courageously gone to the aid of victims, putting their own lives at risk. But though as has happened in some cases the shark has repeatedly struck the victim, none have ever attempted to bite anyone else during the attack.
