5-0 kind of glosses over the fact that the strikers between them managed just 1 of the 5 goals

Nice lead up play but their miles away from being a team that can dispense with their only striker who when on song is a quality international player

You show me 2 strikers that are scoring 15-20 goals a season in the EPL regularly and then you can say hello to Rooney the squad player not the automatic walk up starter

Trouble is the number 2-10 strikers for England are largely forgettable at international level
unless you start recalling some of the discarded veterans

In many ways this is Englands problem...their system doesnt produce enough quality players

You'd take more away from the recent 2-1 friendly win over Italy on Italian soil than this mismatch because of the fresh blood introduced.

It was played at the Wankdorf Stadium in Berne, which as far as I know hasn't as yet become territory that the Swiss have ceded to the Italy.

Not that it makes much difference...Italy in friendlies are jekyl and hyde

Given they got thumped by Spain 4-0 they were probably not really caring that much for a game that counts for nothing so soon after such a humiliating loss

Looks like were in for the long haul in attempting to qualify for the finals in Brazil.

A whistle happy ref, who seemed to enjoy the moments when the cards came out.

Gerrard unlucky to be sent off, Captain fantastic should have realised, after the first booking, any contact with the opposition, would result in an earlier bath, than the rest of his team mates.

I think I would rather punch Mr know-it-all Alan Hansen

I find MOTD intolerable when he is on it. All his droning vocabulary seems to consist of is 'sensational', 'back of the net', and 'very much so'. I pity Shearer & co when they are on with him - they hardly get a word in edgewise

The one who annoys me the most is Mark Lawrenson. He seems to think his role is to continually offer the one line quip, which would be fine if he had a sense of humour and the natural comic timing of a professional comedian, but he falls flat on his face on both counts.

He is pretty consistently hated everywhere, I'd say. For me, it's mostly for his appalling smugness. The way he slowly shakes his head as he relishes every ounce of superiority...

Still. at least the beeb's re-location to Salford has one piece of cost reduction. I read that he used to insist on a private taxi from Cheshire to London and back every Saturday, so that he didn't have to mix with the great unwashed.

Most of the long term pundits are in the job, as they have either been poor managers or are too scared of taking on the role.

Easy to sit in a comfortable chair, watching footie and pointing out all the glaring errors as well as going OTT on some super play or an inspirational piece of footballing skill.

Almost like us footie fans on here, only we don't get paid.

One program I do hate is The Sunday Supplement on SP1, the smugness of the journalist's just aggravates the life out of me, probably why I no longer view. However I do enjoy the Football League show and presenters.
