"Megan Leavey" is the true story of a young female marine corporal during the early part of the Iraq War. She leaves home to join the Marine Corps because of a troubled family life. The film only spends about ten minutes showing her go through boot camp. Then she gets interested in the joining the section that unites a soldier with a German Shepherd or other dog which are used to sniff out booby trap bombs hidden under the ground or in cars , or in buildings or even in the local people's clothes for the purpose of killing our American ground troops. She is told by a commanding officer that to qualify for this she must get a higher rating by becoming an expert marksman with a rifle and other requirements. Megan does this and is then united with this dog called Sergeant Rex. It takes time for her to bond with Rex because he is an especially aggressive dog , but eventually the dog and Megan become buddies and are given assignments to head out in front of the ground troops to try to sniff out hidden bombs. Megan and Rex are very successful at finding bombs and hidden caches of bombs and weapons. Meagan and Rex were deployed in two different cities in 2005 and 2006. There is another story that happens after an incident with Megan and Rex which I wont go into because this would spoil the part of the movie that gets very emotional. "Megan Leavey" is a well acted, well produced and directed movie!

A movie with a plot we're all sort of familiar with in varying respects. That being a person who used to behave a certain way goes off somewhere we know not and then returns. Changed. To everyone else`s detriment.

Am ten minutes in only so can't as yet , give any thumbs.

Although before this I did peruse,

That

Upon the urging of our resident Colorizing (Hey sue me for preferring USA English ) Maestro. He wasn't fair wrong either. As the story of a young lad who discovers a world he never knew existed. A world of wonder and astonishment populated by terrifically generous kind people he finds himself wanting to defend .

Pretty much sums up my life on V.E.F from 2008 onwards

True it`s more of a children target audience slanted film , only I rate it a well worth watchable double

Ghoulies

IMDB
YouTube Trailer

Jonathan Graves is a young man who uncovers his late father's occult paraphernalia in his family's mansion. Graves tries to summon up the demonic forces his father dabbled with, in hopes of gaining supernatural powers. Consequently, the little Ghoulies arrive to descend on the manor and terrorize everyone who participated in the ritual.

Ghoulies is a funny movie. Actually, it was written and directed before the release of Gremlins, even shown at Cannes Film Festival's International Movie Market in May 1984 but still, a lot of people think that it's a rip-off from Joe Dante's cult classic.
But despite the little evil creatures, the two movies have really nothing in common. Ghoulies is more a story about demonology and satanic powers than a creature feature.
Luca Bercovici's film is also more of a PG13 supernatural slasher flick, without (almost) the gore and (unfortunately) nudity. It sort of doesn't know on which foot to dance because it's sometimes a comedy and sometimes a little more serious.
The cast is cool too, featuring Peter Liapis, Jack Nance, Lisa Pelikan, McGyver's villain Michael Des Barres,Playboy Playmate Bobbie Breeze and a young Mariska Hargitay.
For sure Ghoulies is cheesy and dumb, but it has this great 80s vibe, like when you entered a video store and was mesmerized by the VHS covers all around you.

Slaughterhouse Rock

IMDB
YouTube Trailer

A group of teens, attempting to release a curse over their friend, who has been having dreams of the victims of a murderer who lived on the island of Alcatraz. They're helped by the ghost of a dead female rock singer!

Yes, you're right! The sum-up of this movie sucks!
Actually, the plot is very intriguing and quite promising. Made and released in 1988, Slaughterhouse Rock is trying to take some of the success of the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise, very popular at that time. A lot of movies revolving around nighmares and demons were invading big and small screens at that point and this one too.
So it involves a young man, a bunch o'friends, their hot teacher fan of occultism, an ancient colonel from the 1800s committing murders and acts of cannibalism, a demon spirit, a female rock singer who appears as a ghost (played by Toni Basil!) and Alcatraz which was an army camp before turned into a prison! No less! The script isn't afraid of anything and mixes all that stuff in order to make birth to a black horror comedy. But too much isn't always for the best.
Slaughterhouse Rock, despite its cool visuals which make it look like a 85" MTV video from the Eighties, is a mess. The actors aren't really good, the dialogues are very cheesy, the humor is so-so...and most of all, the two main characters are annoying as hell! The hero is a whining bitch who involves his friends into a more than risky adventure and doesn't seem to care when they die. His girlfriend is a whining bitch too. The teacher (played by hottie Donna Denton) and the protagonist's brother are way better and cool characters!
Another major problem is that from the moment when the heroes arrive at Alcatraz, the pace is slowing down and the movie turns into a boring cat and mouse game like many other slasher flicks from that same era.

But Slaughterhouse Rock has is moments, some nice make-up effects, Playboy Playmate turned actress Hope Marie Carlton (probably the hottest B-movie girl from the 80s IMO) and a cool soundtrack entirely composed by Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh. But it is still a bad film, which misses some good opportunities.

"The Cloverfield Paradox" -- oh, what a stinker this is. Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane were both terrific; but this, gosh, its an appalling mess.

I'm just puzzling how this got made at all. This was supposed to be a commercial release, but the studio decided to dump it to Netflix, and Netflix decided to show it with zero promotion.

Which is good, because this excruciatingly bad movie needs to be put in some sort of toxic waste dump.

I just can't figure out how JJ Abrams let this get so utterly out of control . . . this was a great franchise, and this is so utterly bad. The very last second is a bit redeeming, but it comes too late.

I don't think this is a great franchise. The 1st one was a watchable Found Footage flick with enough money to not being too frustrating like many other movies of the same genre, it had its moments but it was also very annoying sometimes thanks to this all Found Footage concept and wasn't very believable.
The second one is mostly watchable because John Goodman's always a great actor but it was also pretty boring, predictable and obviously a movie not made to be a part of this Cloverfield franchise. They changed the ending to stick to the original movie but this ending was a pathetic laughable mess.
Then comes the supposed third film, This out of nowhere Cloverfield Paradox. The original title was God's Particle. It was shot almost two years ago and was bought by Paramount & Bad Robot in order to become part of the Cloverfield saga. They changed some things and lines in it, probably reshot somes scenes and they included that ridiculous final shot during the last few seconds of it in order to make people think it's part of a franchise.
It is an opportunistic method to make cash. The problem is that they probably realized that The Cloverfield Paradox was too close too many other Sci-fi horror flicks, like 2017 20th Century Fox's Life, starring Jake Gyllenhall & Ryan Reynolds, so they finally sold it to Netflix for a few millions bucks.

The movie itself sucks. Not the worst piece of crap ever done but it's predictable, falsely and uselessly complicated, boring and even really embarassing while trying to stick to Cloverfield in every possible ways. Too bad for the cast.

Found footage has gotten old, but at the time it was still fresh; I enjoyed Cloverfield when it came out.

I gotta disagree about 10 Cloverfield Lane. It obviously started out as a very different kind of story, but it does "fit" into a Cloverfield mythos. As you say, John Goodman really holds your attention, and he does hook you on the question "is this guy just some kind of psycho?"; Act 4 answers that question . . . satisfying to me.

I get what you're saying about it not being organically and obviously related to Cloverfield, but I liked that.

Its just achingly terrible. Painful. One thing that particularly pissed me off it that we now have JJ Abrams delivering his signature boring trope the "multiple timelines/multiverse" plot gimmick. He did it in Fringe, he did it in Star Trek, and now he does it in Cloverfield; in this case he rips off a less well known 1969 film called "Doppelganger" -- not a great movie, but original.

"In another timeline, this movie doesn't suck balls"

In Bruges (2008)

Trailer

Irish hitmen Ken (Brendan Gleeson) and Ray (Colin Farrell) are hiding out in Bruges, Belgium, where they're to await further instructions from their boss Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes). They were sent to Bruges because Ray, a rookie in the job, accidentally shot a little boy along with his pime target, a priest. While Ken enjoys Bruges' beautiful architecture and cultural life, the guilt-ridden Ray refers to it as a "shithole" until he meets the charming Chloë (Clémence Poésy), a local petty criminal.

A pleasant black comedy about two men seeking redemption. The fact that Ralph Fiennes appears only in the second half of In Bruges is certainly a loss for this already good film.

Damned. One more time a film that shows that war is abominable and negociation is the only way to follow.
We must immediatly hang all the people who declare war to other people.

Apart that... this heroe proved that peaceful veggies get more bollocks than meat eaters.

Edit: I don't really like blood and injuries, but we have to admit that Mel Gibson does not show the brutality of war as bloodless and almost romantic as during the Hollywood propaganda years during the 60's.
Artistically speaking, I had the feeling that the fights scenes on the hill looked a little bit too "studio" made.
