In such a case as this, either the man takes the fall and remains silent in order to protect others, or else he plea-bargains and gives evidence which will lead to bigger fish. Or he experiences bad luck with his health.

"Bad luck with his health" - as in, accidentally ingesting a nerve agent, or eating polonium in his sushi? Trump ain't all that. The most he can do is hire goons to threaten women in front of their infant children.

Cohen may be tempted to fall on his sword for the man he considers "a father figure", but he won't. He'll cut a deal. He won't be able to afford the legal fees to keep himself out of jail (he owes $50,000 in back taxes) and the FBI have him bang to rights, because he never properly covered his tracks. Hence the raid.

According to an article in yesterday's paper, Cohen has a 'proclivity' for making tapes of phone conversations and saving them as computer files. He has been known to play tapes of someone to others to show off - apparently in New York only one person in a phone conversation has to 'approve' of the taping. Now it is thought that a lot of those conversations were on one or more of the devices that were scooped up by the raid on his office.

What complicates Cohen's defense case, is that he recorded conversations with people in other states too - namely California, where it is illegal to record conversations without the other person's consent.

And the fact that the FBI knows he boasted about the recordings and played them to others means ... they have witnesses.

Oh, and Trump has hired a new lawyer. Specialty: white collar crimes.

Meanwhile, in today's news ... CNN broadcast clips of the forthcoming James Comey interview. There were a couple of great lines in it, but this was a killer. Comey says:

“I honestly never thought these words would come out of my mouth, but I don't know whether the current president of the United States was with prostitutes peeing on each other in Moscow in 2013. It's possible, but I don't know.”

Trump is, of course, already rage-Tweeting about Comey, calling him a "liar" and a "leaker", and saying it was "a great pleasure" to fire him.

You might be right, but I'd hate my life to depend on it. I certainly remember when a surprising number of people turned up dead who might have been an embarrassment to the Clinton administration had they remained inconsiderately alive. In Mr Cohen's shoes I wouldn't consider imprisonment and being disbarred to be my greatest concerns at the moment.

You mean like the ones against the Kennedy's and other powerful personages??
There may not be any court admissible evidence, at least any that has survived, but any one who is naive enough to think our most powerful political and/or financial families haven't offed some one at least from time to time is living outside reality IMO.

Just to note, I'm English and I really don't think our political elites are any better.
