In the past I have always asked myself why Playboy hardly ever published lesbian pictures. For people of my age the name Playboy of course is a legend. It simply was the first gentleman's magazine that published photographs of naked women in a tasteful way. It made erotica somehow socially acceptable.


But to tell the truth when I really started to looking and sometimes even buying such magazines I have to say that I thought that Playboy seemed a bit old-fashioned and boring to me. In the meantime you had Penthouse which still was a gentleman's magazine but just went a little bit farther. Playboy did have beautiful women with gorgeous tits and they did show their pussies, but in Penthouse the pussies went open a little bit. The Penthouse Pets still looked like ladies, but at the same you were thinking: "My God! How dare they show themselves like that." The few centimeters of pussy seemed to be an important victory in what was going to called the Pubic wars.


But there was another important thing by which Penthouse won my and many other men's hearts and cocks: Penthouse showed lesbian love. I remember an interview with Bob Guiccione, the founder of Penthouse in which he told that he was particularly proud of the fact that his magazine broke the lesbian taboo. Especially in the 1970s and 1980s was it samesex relationships were not general accepted it was even more exciting to see two beautiful women going down on each other. Moreover it had absolutely nothing to do with politics or social tolerance, it was just pure pleasure. So Mr. Playboy Hugh Heffner follow in his rival's footsteps and showed what most men wanted to see? I am not sure if this pictorial was also published in the American edition of Playboy. These pictures are from Playboy Italy. I have the feeling that in Italy they were a bit more open-minded. Or maybe they thought simply business. That a men's magazine simply needed some lesbian stuff. Otherwise something essential would be missing.


I have to admit that this pictorial by Dwight Hooker only touches the lesbian love. A group of three men and three women spends some time naked in the Carribean. And there is indeed some tenderness between the women. My favourite pictures are the one that show one guy in the midst of three women. And the small where the woment start to kiss.

I think this is definitely one of the most classic Playboy pictorials. Mr. Playboy himself celebrates a house party with eight girls and himself as the only man. Although there is not any direct lesbian action it is very close to it. The naked pillow battle is very sexy as the scene where they are all in the sauna.


However my favourte is the cave scene with all the girls and Heff in the midst of them. Whereas Playboy USA and maybe also Hugh Heffner himself were reluctant to show lesbian pictorials, it seems that Playboy said a clear YES to lesbian love. It is my impression that the editors there simply that a men's magazine couldn't do without it. This is nice pictorial from 1978 with two women who exchange tenderness. A year later Playboy Italy brought an another pictorial which with regard to its lesbian content could have been in Penthouse too! It is called "Baci di dama" (lady kisses) and it is quite subtle in its content. Just some details of sensual interaction between two women. Panties are pulled down by a female hand to reveal a naked bit. A tongue that licks an ear. Tender carressing of each others' pussies. However my favourites are those with the tits. I am not sure if this is a pictorial that was published in Playboy USA, but it is already from 1974. Instead of on tits it focuses on female butts. I have already noticed that Playboy put on more attention on this part of the body than e.g. Penthouse. Nothing wrong with tits and pussy, but we should forget the butt.
Moreover the pictorial goes quite far in showing lesbian tenderness. A bit of a surprise for 1974. However the most intense interaction is with a man, who is also the only one whose face we seen. Nice shots. Yes, they were published in 1976 and models are US women, Jill Devries and Victoria Cunningham. Jill's muff is one of hairiest ever to grace Playboy. It was a beautiful golden red color.
