Well, when I search the alphabetical drop down menu she is NOT there. So, where the sodding hell is her thread, other than in the Help Section, where quite honestly it needs moving from.
Thank You for your Question.
The Ladies Thread Still Resides in the Modern Section.

The index created in 2012

Beth Morganns thread started in 2014

No mention that the A to Z is an ongoing list kept up to date with new threads

Given the sheer size of modern models i'd trust advanced search a bit more

I had another virus attack, from a previously safe site, or so I thought. Thanks Greenman, following your advice I countered the bastard.

Default Security concerns and advice

"Ransomware" can be as simple as causing your web browser to "loop", preventing you from a normal exit, or it can download a package that can slip past your security software and either replace key system files or encrypt your data.

Three suggestions. First, if you encounter the "FBI Ransom" try running Windows Task Manager, find the running instances of your web browser, left click to select, then right click and select "End Task" to kill the session. Two, beware of unsolicited emails with JPEG attachments, since JPEGs are used to download encryption payloads. Third, keep your critical data off your C: drive, or at least keep good backups.

Bear in mind that websites with adult content are "fly paper" for such attacks. So I try and run a tight ship on my Windows 8.1 laptop. As I have stated in other forums, I heeded Greenman's advice and installed both NoScript and Ghostery on my copy of Firefox. These plug-ins can be a bit of a headache, but I am confident that by suppressing the free execution of scripts I have probably avoided some nasty situations. In FireFox I have also enabled blocking of reported web forgeries and reported attack sites. My primary security software is BitDefender Internet Security 2015, which also blocks suspect websites, and I still use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a backup. I've mucked through some rather scummy waters and so far so good. Is this a product endorsement ? No. But as I said, this combination seems to be working for me. It's my version of computing "safe sex": always protected !

Microsoft recognized that it's Remote Assistance feature could serve as a backdoor for web attacks. In Windows 8 this feature is turned off, and you would have to explicitly enable it under Control Panel. In older versions of Windows this feature is on by default and you have to perform a registry edit to turn it off. In my opinion this is worth the effort.

I don't use Internet Explorer after it was revealed that it has an unresolved exploit in every revision since IE 6. You need to stay up-to-date not only on your Windows security updates but also your other major applications. For me that means constantly checking for updates to Firefox, Firefox plugins, Adobe Acrobat, Java, iTunes, and of course my security software. If I stop using an app I uninstall it: e.g., since I wasn't using Chrome I uninstalled it. Would you keep driving your car if it's been years since you had your oil changed and the brakes checked ?

If you are running Microsoft Security Essentials because it's "free", you might as well have no security software as all. Recent reviews show it to be virtually useless against current threats. If you are cash strapped, your Internet service provider may make security software available as part of your service. My cable/Internet provider makes the Norton Security Suite available. Since my wife had this on her laptop when the subscription expired, I simply downloaded the update from our ISP and saved between $49 and $79 US.

If I'm shopping the web for apps I stick to "trusted" websites like CNET.com or apps from authors that I have used in the past. Of course the "store" concept (Windows Store, Google Play, etc.) helps with the trust factor. Would you buy your groceries from a store that failed it's health inspection ? I hope not !

Keep your head up. Microsoft does not send notices of important updates by email, nor do they pop up in your browser telling you that your Windows software needs updating. If strangers knock on the door of your home, would you open the door and invite them in ?

While virus attacks on smart phones and tablets are not as numerous, they still happen. As more integration of data and apps across platforms (PCs, tablets, smart phones) becomes the norm I fear that attacks on phones and tablets will become more common. There are security apps like Lookout available under Android and iOS, and the base package is free. However, Lookout is a bit of a battery hog, so you might want to shop around. Vendors like Norton are typically selling "three computer" bundles that allow you to install their product on a mix of any three devices, whether they be PCs, tablets, or smartphones. Since many people own all three these days this is an option to consider.

Be safe out there !

I do not understand why you lost all your files in the first place...??

I run a small pc/laptop repair shop, and spend half my days reinstalling machines that have some form of virus or malware infecting them, and fail to see how the 'Police Virus' (as it is called, along with 'u'c'a's'h'*) bollocked your files...?? Only the more recent virus's such as 'crypo locker virus' affect your data, while the 'u'c'a's'h'*/police one only affects your OS.
*(extra ' added to not get name blocked)

I think you will find that it was the person who reinstalled your laptop/pc that lost you files; by either not backing them up to another hdd; easily sorted with use of any disc based 'virtual os'; or by using a trick we use called 'windows.old' reinstall, which leaves your files there as a new OS is installed.

Once you've reinstalled an OS and if your smart also added Anti Virus and Malware protection; you then go into the c drive and retrieve your data, making sure to delete all the other files and the windows.old folder entirely afterwards. This then leaves your machine virus free, and your data unaffected.

Only the harsher 'crypto' virus's harm the files, blocking access to them completely. There were ways around the earlier ones, but the latest forms of this are a real bugger to crack. Even a tech i use with over 20yrs exp cannot sort these latest ones for me.

Advice --- To close any pop up or the early forms of ransomware, simply hold alt & control keys, and then hit delete key. once this brings up the option to access your 'task manager' just highlight the browser and close it that way. does not cause you to have to reboot then. of course, when u next open that browser, DO NOT select to restore previous pages. (this already goes without saying, i'd hope)

Note-- Always have an Anti Virus programme on your machine; always back it up with a good Malware add-on; as they are not the same thing and one will not help fix code of the other..!! You would also be wise to use back-up hdd's rather than store files on your main hdd too; I am lucky enough to have cheap access to hdd's, but on average you can buy a decent brand (avoid western digital like the plague) 500Gb hdd for less than forty quid. A 'caddy' in which you can fit it so it plugs directly into your usb slots is also a mere fiver. You could also splash out on a ready to use Samsung (my trusted fave brand) or Toshiba (next best) portable hdd, but you will pay between fifty to sixty for one of those at most stores. Please please please...!! Avoid buying the blue wd passport hdd's from a well known computer store, as we have more of those breaking down on customers than anything else. They are cheap, nasty, waste of money..!!

I dunno why I lost certain files Pharoahegypt, I aint a PC Nerd. All I know is that they were irretrievably lost, a lot of them being Beth Morggan images, hence my original post requesting if anyone had any Beth Morggan pics and would like to share them with us. Some were recovered and are now stored separately. I now have 2 external hard drives. 1 for important stuff and 1 for "Interesting" stuff.
