Lovebirds in the UK and vibrators

Looking back through my unreliable memory, I seem to remember seeing a magazine in the UK back in about 1983 that featured two women bending over a sofa both with vibrators inserted into their pussies. The only magazines that I can find on here from the UK market that might fit is Lovebirds. It seems amazing to me that Lovebirds could get away with that at a time that the UK censorship was at such a high level. How did they manage it? Did they have to pull back from that level as later editions seem more tame? I haven't been able to identify that set yet, but I'll keep looking.

Growing up in the late 70s early 80s (My first "hard" mag was Playbirds in 1979), I saw quite a bit of UK mag porn.

Sullivan stuff was quite hard, although annoyingly (I suspect it was a marketing ploy) they gave the impression they had been harder. They certainly showed open pussy shots, and guys with full erections.

Rustler and Raider and Journal of Love were also very strong - again open pussy shots, and full erections.

Then there were these short-run mags, which seemed to push the envelope a touch more. Slightly more seedy. It seemed the cock was that much closer to the mouth, or cunt.

I'm sure, I've seen something similar to that shot on VEF. And it was a Sullivan mag.

I also seem to remember some mags (Playbirds, Whitehouse and others of that ilk) in the mid to late 70s 'stretching the envelope' somewhat with vibrators and even a recorder (musical instrument) being shown inserted into pussies. This would have been about 1977 but it didn't last and was fairly short-lived (perhaps they were trying to see what they could get away with).
The magazines in that group still remained the strongest with their held open pussy shots and had a 'continental' look and feel to their content as if they actually were pornography - or at least bordering on it (as opposed to just 'girly mags').

Yes, there definitely was penetration in the 70s and 80s "legal" mags. If you check the Lovebirds thread, you will see some of this (e.g. vol. 1 no. 7 on page 7).

Usually it's masquerading as 'sex education' material. It used to amuse me that they had a regular feature called "Female Masterbation Methods" (I guess they couldn't afford a proofreader )

Yes it looked to me like they were pushing it a bit to see what they could have gotten away with. I'm sure at some point the boys in blue must have had a quiet word as after that brief harder period it went back to just held open pussies and flaccid knobs.

I was a big fan of G*S*P's mags like 'Rustler' back then but in an issue of 'the Journal Of Sex' first volume they pushed the envelope too far, including soft photos of I!ttIe g!rIs and that was the end of the explicitness experiment as far as G*S*P went, every subsequent issue of any of their magazines that I ever saw reined in the previous explicit material.

Publishing those too-young photos was a very stupid move on their part. I suspect Plod may have had a quiet word with them, kicked some ankles very hard and forced them back to nothing more exteme than normal "open pussies and flaccid knobs" as you put it.

Since this thread has been re-activated ...

being a regular of VEF I've seen at least set which appeared in a Whitehouse" softcore, but for which the full hardcore set appeared in a continental mag.

So it's possible that some of the sets in UK mags were cut down hardcore sets from abroad. I know in "Porn Gold" (highly recommended for scholars of UK porn) there were complaints from C*C* and the like that Sullivan was ripping them off, and UK law was powerless to stop him.

On a technical note, it's interesting how the UK mags had their own "colour-tone" ... what intrigues me about the one set I know of, is that it matched the overall "UKiness" of the mag. Begs questions about how the repro was done ?

With Sullivan Mags this sort of thing went on all the time. My ex did some modeling sessions for Sullivan and pics were published in one mag and others from the same set, in another with different girls names. Also they would advertise (say) in Whitehouse mag 'If you want to see more of Barbara and Jill in harder action then buy the all new Pocket Playbirds' etc, etc. If you went and bought it, there were no pics of the girls in that mag. It was just bullshit!
She told me while she was in London at the modeling sessions, they would do a 'soft' simulated sex (Sim-Sex) shoot and then do the harder sessions for overseas mags like Rodox/Color Climax and off-shoot mags, but all by the same photographers.

I think that insertions of dildos and other objects was fairly common in Lovebirds and Playbirds. There were also some cock insertions, but covered by big black stars.

Just wondering if there are posts were there are soft core sets compared to the same hardcore version as above?
