Stop judging me
This comedy is about a secretary who caught bad mouthing her boss fakes being pregnant so he can't fire her. No isn't exactly a laugh riot. Due to lacking that main ingredient of any noticeable humour
But gosh dang it the actors are ok-ish and Lindsey is pretty decent in the thankless role plus looks extremely cute and ... Cough ... Huggable Seeing her here it`s a real frowner to know she dramatically deteriorated in the looks department a mere handful of years later. As in 2009 was a real bang on beauty.

Plenty.
To start somewhere, everyone hated Aliens 3. I thought that was a bloody good film. Not as good as the other two, obv, they were among the best ever made but still, bloody good film. |

It was like a grungy, British take on the franchise and a lot more "real" if that makes sense ? Most of that was down to having Brian Glover in it, of course |

Actually, Alien3 wasn't "that hated" back in 1992. I can easily remember that back then, a lot of film critics around the world praised its ballsy attitude, David Fincher's direction, Sigourney Weaver and the ensemble cast's work. The movie got pretty good reviews from the press. The audience wasn't so much satisfied about the story and the way the script flushes the ending of Aliens so abruptely but frankly, the all hatred for the 3rd episode mostly appeared on the net almost 10 years later.

Simply Irresistible (1999)
This is a movie that I liked much more than the reviewers and a lot of the audience.
The IMDB has 5.3 of 10 stars with a Metacritic Score of only 27; Rotten Tomatoes shows a critics score of 13% critics, with the audience at 54%. I thought that it was really funny, with good to very good performances from Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sean Patrick Flanery, Patricia Clarkson (who steals the show), Lawrence Gilliard, and Dylan Baker. A bit like the 'screwball' rom-coms of the Golden Age. Gellar is struggling to keep her mom's restaurant open after her mom has died (she's not a good chef). A man named Gene O'Reilly (genie? Leprechaun?) convinces her to buy a basket of crabs from him an an open street market. Little does she know that one of the crabs is magical. Pretty soon her cooking gets much better, but how customers react depends on what her mood is while she is making the dish (or dishes.) But she doesn't know that, only that she has gotten better. She falls for Flanery (an executive at a large uptown store that is opening a new fancy restaurant with a ballroom) after they meet cute – thanks to the crab while she is still not sure if she is going to buy the crabs. O'Reilly makes sure that they meet again, acting as a cabbie who drives Flanery and his current girlfriend (Amanda Peet, in a very small but funny role) of 3 dates. Flanery gets dumped by Peet while they are eating, as both are affected by the food at Gellar's place. The restaurant starts to do a lot of business (over a 100 meals a day, after only have 3 regular customers before) and things look up. In the mean time, Flanery gets hooked on one of Gellar's new pasty creations (and so does Clarkson, in what is probably the funniest moment in the movie.) The big-time European chef hired for the new posh restaurant throws a hissy-fit over his knives and quits shortly before it is set to open. Flanery convinces Gellar to take his place – she has a real case of nerves, even with her pal/confidant Gilliard acting as her sous chef. The night of the big opening the crowd is full of restaurant critics and some celebs – more nerves for Gellar, but the meal courses that she prepares cause them to experience joy, something like transcendental peace, and love for those they are with. Gellar thinks that she has ruined things and leaves, but a paper airplane thrown from an upper story of the store by Flanery lands in the open cab window – all ends up well. There are a lot of good lines in the movie, they read well when you look them up as quotes at places like IMDB, but the actors make them even better. By the way, O' Reilly is played by Christopher Durang, a New York actor and playwright (and long-time friend of Sigourney Weaver). Note - Roger Ebert, who has always been one of my favorite critics (for his treatment of 'genre' movies) gave this 3 out of 4 stars. Trailer fuzzy but longest I could find. Full Movie, but small screen inside larger one. Just check out Patricia Clarkson at the 45:00 minute mark. Unfortunately the audio for this is not near as good as on my DVD widescreen version - so it doesn't do full justice to her performance. .. |

You`re right you`re right , my fondness for Kate Beckinsale has influenced how I feel about this
Film
Although that said she`s bloody totally committed emotively excellent in it !. Even if the sodding thing is devoid of any original ideas , a semi sensible script or logic. Let alone some truly thriller / horror aspect. Plot (Such as it is) concerns a couple who having lost a baby daughter (Under never clearly explained circumstances) move with their son to an Amityville type house in the woods. Near a town who`s characters you`d love to be fleshed out , only never are. Supposedly the finished product was heavily edited with several scenes removed. I can't say that if they`d been retained it might have improved matters. As director and writer D. J. Caruso clearly didn't know what in the cheesy cock they were doing Just the same Kate`s "All in" wholehearted performance makes it a film I like.

for me , The Postman by Kevin Costner -
I actually thought it a movie made with ' heart ' and its certainly not a standard fare from a normal Hollywood Film another Bad Boys starring Will Smith - really slated by Barry Norman - but yet I got to see it at the Cinema , and love it ( and buy the soundtrack CD ) Last edited by 73north; February 9th, 2018 at 09:16 PM.. |

I thought it was mostly a great movie. It may be Charles Dutton's best performance, and the notion of crims and jailers remaining on in a derelict prison, just because they had no place else to go-- that was pretty awesome. And Charles Dance finally gets to play a good guy . . . David Fincher has said he's unhappy with how the movie turned out, but it still has his smart film making, and his dark tone. Towards the end of the film it looks like they ran out of money for some of the CG shots, where the Alien looks incompletely rendered- weird. Not sure if there's footage for him to recut it as he intended the film to be, but this is definitely a case where I'd like to know what it was he was thinking. Edit: found a really interesting link where David Fincher discusses what was on his mind with this film what he wanted to do and couldn't and what the studio made him do.
